Background: Apolipoprotein E4 (apoE4) has been identified as the major genetic risk factor for late onset Alzheimer's disease (AD). Our lab has demonstrated that chronic administration of Aβ12-28P, a synthetic peptide that blocks apoE4/Aβ binding, in middle-aged transgenic AD mice significantly ameliorates pathology progression, resulting in reduced Aβ plaques deposition and cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) along with improved memory and cognition. However, whether blocking apoE4/Aβ interaction by Aβ12-28P also has an ameliorating effect on the neuronal and cognitive function of old AD mice where Aβ pathology has been extensively developed remains unknown.

Background: Reactive astrocytes and neuron death by excitotoxicity are observed in Alzheimer's disease (AD). DHA-H (2-hydroxy-docosahexaenoic acid; 2-OH-C22:6 n-3) is a molecule under development that has demonstrated therapeutic efficacy in both cellular and 5xFAD mouse model of AD. DHA-H is metabolized through α-oxidation to yield HPA (Heneicosapentaenoic acid; C21:5 n-3).

We report a series of 12 patients who developed early distal radioulnar joint subluxation after a distal radial fracture, not present on the initial radiographs. Early identification and management of this condition can give good clinical results. IV.

Treatment of anterior rim fractures of the distal radius with an anterior rim plate: A retrospective study.

Department of Orthopedics, E-Da Hospital, I-Shou University/School of Medicine, College of Medicine, I-Shou University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Treatment of distal radial fractures that include small anterior rim fragments can be difficult. We retrospectively reviewed 19 patients in whom an anterior rim plate with locking screws was used. After a median follow-up of 18 months (range 6-32; interquartile range (IQR) 14, 26), the median wrist flexion and extension arc was 70° (range 50-80; IQR 60, 70), the median grip strength was 80% of the contralateral side (range 52-104; IQR 77, 88), the median visual analogue scale score for pain was 0 (range 0-5; IQR 0, 1), the median disabilities of the arm, shoulder and hand score was 2 (range 0-59; IQR 0, 11) and the median modified Mayo wrist score was 80 (range 35-100; IQR 75, 85).

Surgical outcomes of radial polydactyly according to a modified Wassel-Flatt classification: A retrospective study of 211 patients with 223 thumbs.

J Hand Surg Eur Vol

January 2025

Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan College of Medicine, 88, Olympic Road 43-gil, Songpa-gu, Seoul, 05505, Republic of Korea.

We previously introduced the modified Wassel-Flatt classification to overcome the limitation of the traditional classification for radial polydactyly. This study aimed to evaluate this modified classification in terms of surgical planning and clinical outcomes using the Japanese Society for Surgery of the Hand scoring system. A retrospective review of 211 patients with 223 thumbs treated for radial polydactyly between October 2017 and November 2022 was conducted.
