The starch-utilization system (Sus) is a cell-surface and periplasmic system involved in starch cleavage and transport. Over 80 additional Sus-like systems utilize substrates ranging from host glycans to plant cell wall pectins. Bt has evolved intricate strategies to interact with other microbes or its host, including modification of its surface. Some nutrient utilization pathways select for or directly trigger changes in capsular polysaccharide (CPS) expression. Like other fermentative members of the gut microbiome, Bt produces host absorbable short-chain and organic acids, which can all be absorbed by the host as a source of energy.

Methods: This cohort study prospectively recruited adult BNT162b2 two-dose recipients from three vaccination centers in Hong Kong. Blood samples were collected at baseline and day 180 after first dose, and tested for neutralizing antibodies (NAb) against receptor-binding domain (RBD) of wild type SARS-CoV-2 virus using chemiluminescence immunoassay.

Obesity is a complex disorder influenced by various factors, including gut microbiota, which play a crucial role in metabolic regulation. This study is aimed to investigate the effects of Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron and Bacteroides fragilis, along with their derivatives-outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) and cell-free supernatant (CFS)-on the expression and secretion of satiety hormones in the murine intestinal secretin tumor cell line (STC-1). We examined the expression of peptide YY (PYY), glucagon-like peptide-1 and -2 (GLP-1 and GLP-2, encoded by the GCG gene), the enzyme prohormone convertase-1 (PC1/PCSK1 gene), and the receptors G protein-coupled receptor 119 and 120 (GPR119 and GPR120), and G-protein-coupled bile acid receptor (TGR5).
