Unactivated aziridines are the core substructures in a plethora of bioactive natural products and serve as building blocks in organic synthesis. Despite this, very limited methods are available to access them directly from olefins, as most of the known methods are devoted to their activated counterparts. Herein, we have developed a highly efficient Rh(II)-catalyzed method for the direct preparation of unactivated aziridines from olefins using O-(sulfonyl)hydroxylamines as the aminating agent. The reactions proceed with a high stereospecificity.

In the context of personalized and precision medicine, simultaneous monitoring of different forms of vitamins A and E and their metabolites could help us better understand the status of vitamins A and E in the body. The aim of this study was to establish a method for simultaneous determination of 13 kinds of vitamins A and E and their metabolites in human serum. Serum samples were directly detected by LC-MS/MS after deproteinization.

The citrus scent arises from the volatile monoterpene limonene, whose cyclic nature can be viewed as a miniaturized form of the poly-cyclic sterol triterpenoids. In particular, as these rings are all formed from poly-isoprenyl precursors via carbocation cascades. However, the relevant reactions are initiated by distinct mechanisms, either lysis/ionization of an allylic diphosphate ester bond, as in limonene synthases, or protonation of a terminal olefin or epoxide, as in lanosterol synthases.

Transcriptomics is a powerful approach for functional genomics and systems biology, yet it can also be used for genetic part discovery. Here, we derive constitutive and light-regulated promoters directly from transcriptomics data of the basidiomycete red yeast Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhous CBS 6938 (anamorph Phaffia rhodozyma) and use these promoters with other genetic elements to create a modular synthetic biology parts collection for this organism. An amine-promoted three-component radical selenofunctionalization reaction of alkenes with TBHP and diselenide is disclosed. The reaction conditions are mild and suitable for a wide range of substrates (29 examples), and all give the corresponding hydroxyselenenylation products in moderate to excellent yields. In addition, preliminary studies on the mechanism reveal that the current method might proceed via a radical pathway.

Herein we describe a dual photo/cobalt-catalyzed anti-Markovnikov hydroacylation of aryl alkenes using aldehyde as acyl source. The key to success is the cobalt catalyzed hydrogen atom transfer, which enables effective formation of the desired products and efficient regeneration of the photocatalyst under mild conditions. This protocol features broad substrate scopes, good functional group tolerance, high efficiency and regioselectivity.
