Aim: The main purpose of the current study was to evaluate the toxicity of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) on adult Balb/C mice.
Main Methods: Twenty five Balb/C mice purchased and divided into four groups of five. Group one serves as control and injected by normal saline; group's two to four were injected by Ag NPs at 0.25, 0.50 and 1 mg/kg, respectively.
Key Findings: Overall, current results indicate that all concentration of Ag NPs have potential for induction of toxicity in different tissues. Ag NPs at concentration >0.25 mg/kg result in pathological changes in liver, spleen, brain, heart, lungs, kidneys, and testicles tissues; as well as it lead to significant change in sperm quality and quantity, and blood brain barrier (BBB) permeability. Ag NPs at the lowest concentration (0.25 mg/kg) significantly changed the oxidative stress levels in serum and liver tissue but did not change the level of liver enzymes and renal markers in serum.
Significance: The current research results support clearly the toxic effects of Ag NPs at very low concentration and suggest that further in vivo investigation are required to be able to confirm the safety of nanoparticle derived application to use in life.

Mercury (II) ion (Hg) as highly toxic heavy metal may be accumulated in aquatic ecosystems and animals species so as to enter human body to conduct health harm. To ensure the safety of fishes food, hence, it is of great interest to evaluate the Hg levels in different kinds of fishes as well as Hg removal in aquaculture tailwater. In this article, a selective colormetric detection and efficient removal strategy has been developed for Hg ions by the controlled supermolecular self-assembly of melamine (MA)-platinum (Pt) composites onto mesoporous FeO carriers.

Three fish species (common carp, Wels catfish, and silver carp) were collected from three locations along the Danube River in Serbia, and fish meat was analyzed for the content of toxic elements, micro- and macrominerals. Silver carp had the highest lead (Pb), arsenic (As), and cadmium (Cd) content, while Wels catfish had the highest level of mercury (Hg). Moreover, metal pollution index (MPI) ranged from 0.

Metallic nanostructures play a vital role in technological advancement, providing exceptional performance and improved adaptability in comparison to their bulk equivalents. Conventional synthesis techniques frequently depend on dangerous reducing agents to transform metal ions into Nanoparticles (NPs), which presents considerable environmental and health issues. In contrast, the approach of green synthesis, which emphasizes the use of non-toxic reagents, has garnered significant interest as a sustainable method for the fabrication of Metallic Nanoparticles (MNPs).

The jute hairy caterpillar, Spilosoma obliqua (Lepidoptera: Erebidae) is considered as one of the major threats to jute cultivation. The best eco-friendly methods to combat these jute pests involve administration of nano-biopesticides, as a successful alternative to the toxic chemicals. In this study, a nano-biopesticide formulation containing green synthesized silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) using Ocimum sanctum leaf extract has been proposed.

Bacterial contamination is a very serious health and environmental problem, with the main source of toxicity being lipopolysaccharides in the cell walls of Gram-negative bacteria. Therefore, the development of effective analytical methods is crucial for the detection of lipopolysaccharide content. This work facilitates the efficient generation of precisely adjustable dual-mode signals for LPS detection in surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and electrochemiluminescence (ECL) by inducing anisotropic morphological evolution of Au@Ag nanocubes (Au@AgNCs) through poly-cytosine (poly-C) DNA.
