In coherent-diffraction-imaging experiments X-ray diffraction patterns of identical particles are recorded. The particles are injected into the X-ray free-electron laser (XFEL) beam in random orientations. If the particle has symmetry, finding the orientation of a pattern can be ambiguous. With some modifications, the correlation-maximization method can find the relative orientations of the diffraction patterns for the case of symmetric particles as well. After convergence, the correlation maps show the symmetry of the particle and can be used to determine the symmetry elements and their orientations. The C factor, slightly modified for the symmetric case, can indicate the consistency of the assembled three-dimensional intensity distribution.

Viruses are the most abundant biological entities on Earth, with an estimated 10 viruses in the biosphere. These particles serve as the crucial link between viral replication cycles in different host cells, employing a variety of release mechanisms, such as cell lysis, exocytosis, and budding. Among the diverse viral groups, giant viruses have garnered significant scientific interest due to their complex particles and genomes.

Small volume dissolution systems are commonly used in dissolution testing, primarily in method development for low dose formulations compared to standard dissolution apparatuses used with evaluation of larger formulations. This is typically done because of cost savings associated with using smaller media volumes and sample sizes, to overcome the lack of material in early development, and to provide higher analytical sensitivity and discrimination ability. The Chinese Pharmacopoeia (CP) includes a small dissolution apparatus in their list ("Method 3 (Small Vessel)") (The State Pharmacopoeia Commission of P.

A recent development in our understanding of the theory of quantum fields is the fact that familiar gauge theories in spacetime dimensions greater than two can have non-invertible symmetries generated by topological defects. The hallmark of these non-invertible symmetries is that the fusion rule deviates from the usual group-like structure, and in particular the fusion coefficients take values in topological field theories (TFTs) rather than in mere numbers. In this paper we begin an exploration of the associativity structure of non-invertible symmetries in higher dimensions.

Coherent control of atomic and molecular scattering relies on the preparation of colliding particles in superpositions of internal states, establishing interfering pathways that can be used to tune the outcome of a scattering process. However, the incoherent addition of different partial wave contributions to the integral cross-sections, commonly encountered in systems with complex collisional dynamics, poses a significant challenge, often limiting the control. This work demonstrates that time-reversal symmetry can be used to overcome these limitations by constraining the relation between the S-matrix elements.

Advances in cryo-electron microscopy instrumentation and sample preparation have significantly improved the ability to collect quality data for biomolecular structures. However, achieving resolutions consistent with data quality remains challenging in structures with symmetry mismatches. As a case study, the bacterial flagellar motor is a large complex essential for bacterial chemotaxis and virulence.
