Left-right asymmetry is subtle but pervasive in the human central nervous system. This asymmetry is initiated early during development, but its mechanisms are poorly known. Forebrains and midbrains were dissected from six human embryos at Carnegie stages 15 or 16, one of which was female. The structures were divided into left and right sides, and RNA was isolated. RNA was sequenced with 100 base-pair paired ends using Illumina Hiseq 4000. After quality control, five paired brain sides were available for midbrain and forebrain. A paired analysis between left- and right sides of a given brain structure across the embryos identified left-right differences. The dataset, consisting of Fastq files and a read count table, can be further used to study early development of the human brain.

From an embodied perspective of cognition, number processing influences the spatial organization of motor responses showing faster left/right responses to small/large numbers. Recent evidence suggests that such spatial-numerical associations (SNAs) along the transverse and sagittal planes are mutually exclusive with respect to the spatial reference frames used by the participant. Specifically, in egocentric and allocentric frames, SNAs appear along the sagittal and transverse plane, respectively.

Broca's and Wernicke's areas are comprised of Brodmann areas 44, 45 and 22 in the human brain. Because of their roles in higher cognitive and linguistic function, there has been historical and contemporary interest in comparative studies on the morphology and cytoarchitectonic organization in Broca's and Wernicke's between primate species. One challenge to comparative morphological studies between human and nonhuman primates for Broca's and Wernicke's areas is the absence in homologous sulci used to define these regions.

Citizens' trust in science increasingly depends on their political leaning. Structural equation models on survey data from 10 European countries ( = 5306) demonstrate that this can be captured by a model with four levels of generalization. Voters of populist parties distrust the in general, which indirectly fuels a broad science skepticism.

Purpose: To train and validate KB prediction models by merging a large multi-institutional cohort of whole breast irradiation (WBI) plans using tangential fields.
Methods: Ten institutions (INST1-INST10, 1481 patients) developed their KB-institutional models for left/right WBI (ten models for right and eight models for left). The transferability of models among centers was assessed based on the overlap of the geometric Principal Component (PC1) of each model when applied to other institutions and/or on the presence of significantly different optimization policies.

Asymmetric development, in which functional differences occur between left-right symmetrical organs, is widespread in organisms, including fish and mollusks. However, the asymmetry of symmetrical sensory structures in Haliotis discus hannai, a gastropod with a sensitive sensory system, remains unknown. This study analyzed the transcriptomes of three sensory structures (eyestalks, cephalic tentacles, and epipodial tentacles) to explore potential asymmetries in this species.
