Significant interest has emerged in the development of nanometer-sized and hierarchical silicoaluminophosphate zeolites (SAPO-34) because of their enhanced accessibility and improved catalytic activity for methanol-to-olefin (MTO) conversion. A series of nanometer-sized SAPO-34 catalysts with tunable hierarchical structures was synthesized in a Al O /H PO /SiO /triethylamine(TEA)/H O system by using a mesoporogen-free nanoseed-assisted method. The nanometer-sized hierarchical S -3.0 catalyst (TEA/Al O =3.0) possessed the highest crystallinity, highest abundance of intracrystalline meso-/macropores, and the most suitable acidity among all obtained catalysts, showing the highest ethylene and propylene selectivity of 85.4 %. This is the highest reported selectivity for MTO reactions under similar conditions. Detailed analysis of the coke produced during the reaction revealed that the small-sized methyl-substituted benzene and bulky methyl-substituted pyrene were mainly located inside the crystals instead of on the surface of the crystals, which provided further insight into understanding the deactivation of the SAPO-34 catalyst during MTO reaction. Significantly, the simple and cost-effective synthetic process and superb catalytic performance of the nanometer-sized hierarchical SAPO-34 is promising for their practical large-scale application for MTO conversion.

The ability to tailor surface area, porosity, and morphologies has driven extensive research into the synthesis of metal-organic frameworks derived carbons and their applications in energy storage. This study presents the development of three-dimensional hierarchically porous carbon derived from polystyrene and small-sized zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) particles. Incorporating nanometer-sized ZIF-8 particles forms a core-shell structure in the pre-carbonization stage, transforming into a porous carbon material with a range of pores from micro to macropores after carbonization.

Self-supported electrodes, featuring abundant active species and rapid mass transfer, are promising for practical applications in water electrolysis. However, constructing efficient self-supported electrodes with a strong affinity between the catalytic components and the substrate is of great challenge. In this study, by combining the ideas of in-situ construction and space-confined growth, we designed a novel self-supported FeOOH/cobalt phosphide (CoP) heterojunctions grown on a carefully modified commercial Ni foam (NF) with three-dimensional (3D) hierarchically porous Ni skeleton (FeOOH/CoP/3D NF).

The arrangement of nanoscale building blocks into patterns with microscale periodicity is challenging to achieve via self-assembly processes. Here, we report on the phase-transition-driven collective assembly of gold nanoparticles in a thermotropic liquid crystal. A temperature-induced transition from the isotropic to the nematic phase under anchoring-driven planar alignment leads to the assembly of individual nanometer-sized particles into arrays of micrometer-sized agglomerates, whose size and characteristic spacing can be tuned by varying the cooling rate.

Although advances in wireless technologies such as miniature and wearable electronics have improved the quality of our lives, the ubiquitous use of electronics comes at the expense of increased exposure to electromagnetic (EM) radiation. Up to date, extensive efforts have been made to develop high-performance EM absorbers based on synthetic materials. However, the design of an EM absorber with both exceptional EM dissipation ability and good environmental adaptability remains a substantial challenge.
