The hybrid training system (HTS) is a special and compact system for effective skeletal muscle training by a combined application of volitional and electrical muscle contraction. Lower limbs' muscle training using HTS has been reported to increase not only muscle strength but also plasma interleukin-6 levels; however, little is known in other cytokines. In this study, we measured 52 cytokines and creatine phosphokinase-MM in the serum of 16 healthy men before and after lower limbs' muscle training by the knee flexion and extension using HTS. Skeletal muscle volume-corrected serum concentrations of cutaneous T-cell-attracting chemokine, erythropoietin, and tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand increased immediately after the training. These increased cytokines have been reported to play important roles in wound healing, neuroprotection, and cardiovascular protection.

The background for establishing and verifying a dehydration prediction model for elderly patients with post-stroke dysphagia (PSD) based on General Utility for Latent Process (GULP) is as follows: For elderly patients with PSD, GULP technology is utilized to build a dehydration prediction model. This aims to improve the accuracy of dehydration risk assessment and provide clinical intervention, thereby offering a scientific basis and enhancing patient prognosis. This research highlights the innovative application of GULP technology in constructing complex medical prediction models and addresses the special health needs of elderly stroke patients.

Background/objectives: recent studies have suggested that components typical of the Mediterranean diet (MedDiet) are associated with depression and anxiety prevention. In this sense, the main objective of this study was to analyse the associations between adherence to the MedDiet and depression and anxiety symptoms and to examine whether this relationship is mediated by lean mass and the muscle strength index (MSI).
Methods: a cross-sectional study (based on data obtained from the Nuts4Brain-Z study) was conducted from 2023-2024, involving 428 university students, aged 18-30 years, from a Spanish public university.

Background And Objectives: In karate, particularly in the kata discipline, there is a notable lack of studies focused on specific physical preparation for competitions. This highlights an urgent need for more in-depth research into this crucial aspect of athletic training to optimize performance and athlete preparation. The objective of this study was to analyze the influence of a dietary plan combined with specific physical preparation on the performance and body composition of a professional kata athlete preparing for a Pan American championship.

Background: Breakfast is often termed the most important meal of the day. However, its importance to acute and chronic adaptations to exercise is currently not well summarized throughout the literature.
Methods: A narrative review of the experimental literature regarding breakfast consumption's impact on acute and chronic exercise performance and alterations in body composition prior to November 2024 was conducted.

Background: Physical activity, such as running, protects against cardiovascular disease and obesity but can induce oxidative stress. Athletes often consume antioxidants to counteract the overproduction of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species during exercise. , particularly its phycocyanin content, activates the Nrf2 pathway, stimulating antioxidant responses.
