Ultrasound is one of the most important imaging modalities in pediatric imaging because of its accessibility, portability, lack of ionizing radiation, and ability to generally perform examinations without need for sedation. Ultrasound elastography can measure the stiffness of various tissues. This review article aims to discuss how ultrasound elastography has performed in evaluating multiple pathologies in the pediatric population. The best studied pediatric applications are in liver diseases such as fibrosis, biliary atresia, and hepatic vascular congestion. Measuring muscle stiffness in cerebral palsy is the most promising pediatric musculoskeletal application, but many other applications are in the early stages of research. Other applications in pediatric small organ imaging have been explored and still need more study before gaining clinical relevance.

Shear Wave Elastography (SWE) is an imaging technique that detects shear waves generated by tissue excited by Acoustic Radiation Force (ARF), and characterizes the mechanical properties of soft tissue by analyzing the propagation velocity of shear wave. ARF induces a change in energy density through the nonlinear propagation of ultrasound waves, which drives the tissue to generate shear waves. However, the amplitude of shear waves generated by ARF is weak, and the shear waves are strongly attenuated in vivo.

Background: When papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is accompanied by Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), it is often challenging for preoperative ultrasound to distinguish between central lymph node enlargement caused by PTC metastasis and inflammatory reaction due to HT. However, central lymph node metastasis (CLNM) is closely associated with the risk of PTC recurrence after surgery. In this study, we developed a model to predict in patients with PTC combined with HT, based on conventional ultrasound characteristics and shear wave elastography (SWE) quantitative parameters of the primary lesion.

Background: The objective of this study was to comprehensively review the literature on Shear Wave Elastography (SWE), a non-invasive imaging technique prevalent in medical ultrasound. SWE is instrumental in assessing superficial glandular tissues, abdominal organs, tendons, joints, carotid vessels, and peripheral nerve tissues, among others. By employing bibliometric analysis, we aimed to encapsulate the scholarly contributions over the past two decades, identifying key research areas and tracing the evolutionary trajectory of SWE.

Ultrasound shear wave elastography (SWE) is widely used in clinical applications for non-invasive measurements of soft tissue viscoelasticity. The study of tissue viscoelasticity often involves the analysis of shear wave phase velocity dispersion curves, which show how the phase velocity varies with frequency or wavelength. In this study, we propose an alternative method to the two-dimensional Fourier transform (2D-FT) and Phase Gradient (PG) methods for shear wave phase velocity estimation.

Gallbladder carcinoma in the era of artificial intelligence: Early diagnosis for better treatment.

Department of Anatomy, Division of Human Biology, School of Medicine, IMU University, Kuala Lumpur 57000, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Gallbladder carcinoma (GBC) is the most common malignant tumor of biliary tract, with poor prognosis due to its aggressive nature and limited therapeutic options. Early detection of GBC is a major challenge, with most GBCs being detected accidentally during cholecystectomy procedures for gallbladder stones. This letter comments on the recent article by Deqing in the , which summarized the various current methods used in early diagnosis of GBC, including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) examination of the gallbladder for high-risk GBC patients, and the use of EUS-guided elastography, contrast-enhanced EUS, trans-papillary biopsy, natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery, magnifying endoscopy, choledochoscopy, and confocal laser endomicroscopy when necessary for early diagnosis of GBC.
