From samples of pp collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at sqrt[s]=7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1.0, 2.0 and 1.5  fb^{-1}, respectively, a peak in both the Λ_{b}^{0}K^{-} and Ξ_{b}^{0}π^{-} invariant mass spectra is observed. In the quark model, radially and orbitally excited Ξ_{b}^{-} resonances with quark content bds are expected. Referring to this peak as Ξ_{b}(6227)^{-}, the mass and natural width are measured to be m_{Ξ_{b}(6227)^{-}}=6226.9±2.0±0.3±0.2  MeV/c^{2} and Γ_{Ξ_{b}(6227)^{-}}=18.1±5.4±1.8  MeV/c^{2}, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third, on m_{Ξ_{b}(6227)^{-}}, is due to the knowledge of the Λ_{b}^{0} baryon mass. Relative production rates of the Ξ_{b}(6227)^{-}→Λ_{b}^{0}K^{-} and Ξ_{b}(6227)^{-}→Ξ_{b}^{0}π^{-} decays are also reported.

Article Synopsis
  • Chromosomal inversions in zebra finches affect various traits, particularly sperm characteristics like midpiece and flagellum length, due to a notable region on the Z chromosome.
  • A study of young males' testis and liver transcriptomes revealed 794 differentially expressed genes, mainly on the Z chromosome, with enrichment for sperm-related functions.
  • There were distinct patterns of gene expression between inversion karyotypes, indicating that these chromosomal changes can lead to diverse phenotypic outcomes based on tissue type and specific genes.

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is one of the non-invasive brain stimulation techniques that can improve motor functions. As bimanual motor actions require high motor cortical activations between hemispheres, applying bilateral anodal stimulation on left and right sides of primary motor cortex (M1) can improve for improvements in bimanual motor tasks. This study investigated which bilateral tDCS protocol effectively improves bimanual hand-grip force control capabilities in healthy young adults.

Background: Cancer prevention and treatment systems are significantly impacted by interpersonal, organizational, and structural and systemic racism. A wide body of research has found that racial disparities in access to guideline-adherent cancer care are pervasive throughout the United States and contributing factors include social determinants of health, insurance status, and bias and discrimination in care delivery. Although the existence of racial disparities in cancer care and outcomes is well established, there has been limited research exploring the patient and caregiver experience with bias and discrimination in cancer care.

Triple A-Site Cation Ordering in the Ferrimagnetic YCuGaMnO Perovskite.

Inorg Chem

September 2022

International Center for Materials Nanoarchitectonics (WPI-MANA), National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Namiki 1-1, Tsukuba, Ibaraki 305-0044, Japan.

Article Synopsis
  • A high-pressure, high-temperature method was used to prepare a new perovskite compound, YCuGaMnO, which displays a unique triple cation ordering and some anti-site disorder among 3d transition metals in its crystal structure.
  • The compound exhibits long-range ferrimagnetic order at 115 K, with specific magnetic moments aligned along the axis, differing from its "parent" compound YMnGaMnO which exhibits spin-glass properties.
  • Thermal expansion behavior of YCuGaMnO is anisotropic, showing distinct changes in lattice parameters at various temperatures, decreasing at first and then increasing as temperature rises.

Background: Indatuximab ravtansine (BT062) is an antibody-drug conjugate that binds to CD138 and synergistically enhances the antitumor activity of lenalidomide in preclinical models of multiple myeloma. This phase 1/2a study was done to determine the safety, activity, and pharmacokinetics of indatuximab ravtansine in combination with immunomodulatory drugs in patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma.

Methods: This open-label, phase 1/2a study took place at nine hospital sites in the USA.
