Building predictive sensors is of paramount importance in science. Can we make a randomly wired sensor "good enough" at predicting its input simply by making it larger? We show that infinitely large, randomly wired sensors are nonspecific for their input, and therefore nonpredictive of future input, unless they are close to deterministic. Nearly deterministic, randomly wired sensors can capture ∼ 10% of the predictive information of their inputs for "typical" environments.

Previous research has suggested that numerosity estimation and counting are closely related to distributed and focused attention, respectively (Chong & Evans, WIREs Cognitive Science, 2(6), 634-638, 2011). Given the critical role of color in guiding attention, this study investigated its effects on numerosity processing by manipulating both color variety (single color, medium variety, high variety) and spatial arrangement (clustered, random). Results from the estimation task revealed that high color variety led to a perceptual bias towards larger quantities, regardless of whether colors were clustered or randomly arranged.

Traditionally, the place-pitch 'tonotopically' organized auditory neural pathway was considered to be hard-wired. Cochlear implants restore hearing by arbitrarily mapping frequency-amplitude information. This study shows that recipients, after a long period of sound deprivation, preserve a level of auditory plasticity, enabling them to swiftly and concurrently learn speech understanding with two alternating, distinct frequency maps.

Introduction: This study aims to determine if intraoral 850 nm LED irradiation could reduce the duration of lower anterior crowding alignment.
Methods: In a parallel-designed, randomized controlled clinical trial 60 patients with 2 to 6 mm of lower incisor crowding who need non-extraction treatment, were randomly assigned to the intervention and control groups by block randomization (36 females, 24 males, mean age: 19.93 ± 3.

Background: Biomaterials used in fracture healing hold a significant place in orthopedics. This study aimed to develop biomaterials coated with hydroxyapatite (HA), boric acid (BA), and magnesium (Mg) and investigate their effects on fracture healing.
Methods: Sixty female Wistar Albino rats were included in the study.
