Article Synopsis
  • - Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition, and Aldara® (imiquimod) cream applied to mice creates a model (AIPD) to study the disease's development and severity arising from genetic differences in 13 inbred mouse strains.
  • - The research identified that variations in the Itga11 gene, which encodes a protein involved in skin inflammation and wound healing, are linked to different severities of AIPD among the mouse strains.
  • - Mice lacking the Itga11 gene showed reduced inflammation and fewer immune cells in their skin when AIPD was induced, suggesting that Itga11 is crucial for the inflammatory responses in psoriasis and could be a potential target for new treatments.

Chronic Alcohol Consumption Exacerbates the Severity of Psoriasiform Dermatitis in Mice.

Alcohol Clin Exp Res

September 2020

From the, Laboratoire Inflammation Tissus Epithéliaux et Cytokines EA 4331, (PV, MP, CG, J-FJ, FM, CS, J-CL), Université de Poitiers, Poitiers, France.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers investigated how chronic alcohol consumption affects psoriasis-like skin conditions in mice, finding that ethanol can worsen skin inflammation.
  • Mice that consumed ethanol showed more severe dermatitis symptoms, including thicker skin and increased levels of cytokines related to inflammation.
  • The study suggests that alcohol may trigger low-level skin inflammation, which can exacerbate psoriasis symptoms, highlighting the need for managing alcohol intake in individuals with psoriasis.

IL-36R signaling plays an important role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. We ought to assess the specific function of IL-36R in keratinocytes for the pathology of Aldara-induced psoriasis-like dermatitis. mice presenting deletion of IL-36R in keratinocytes were similarly resistant to Aldara-induced ear inflammation as mice, but acanthosis was only prevented in mice.

Reverse transcriptase qPCR is the most common method to determine and compare mRNA expression levels and relies on normalization using reference genes. The expression levels of the latter, however, are themselves often variable between experimental conditions, thus compromising the results. Using the geNorm algorithm, we have examined seven genes with respect to their suitability as reference genes for gene analysis in mouse models of skin inflammation, using the antibody transfer model of epidermolysis bullosa acquisita and in the Aldara -induced psoriasiform dermatitis.

GPR15 is not critically involved in the regulation of murine psoriasiform dermatitis.

J Dermatol Sci

April 2019

Department of Dermatology, Allergy, and Venereology, University of Lübeck, Lübeck, Germany. Electronic address:

Background: GPR15 has been implicated in the pathogenesis of T cell-driven inflammation of the skin and the gut. Expression levels of the GPR15 ligand GPR15 L are increased in psoriatic skin and considered as potential biomarker for the treatment response to anti-IL-17 antibody therapies. However, the significance of the GPR15 L/GPR15 for the pathogenesis of psoriasis and the mechanisms regulating GPR15 L expression are still elusive.
