[Purpose] A new method for measuring dynamic balance was developed. The aim of this study was to describe the use of a novel "unstable board" to evaluate the balance ability of community-dwelling elderly individuals. [Participants and Methods] The following balance outcomes were evaluated in 59 community-dwelling elderly people: anteroposterior and mediolateral stability indexes on the unstable board, Mini-Balance Evaluation Systems Test score, the Functional Reach Test score, Timed Up-and-Go time, and the Figure-8 Walk Test time. [Results] With respect to the relationship between the stability indexes and functional balance scales, the anteroposterior stability index significantly correlated with the anticipatory postural adjustment component (=-0.422), stability in the gait component (=-0.274), and total score of the Mini-Balance Evaluation Systems Test (=-0.316); timed up-and-go time (=0.320); and figure-8 walk test time (=0.340). No correlation was found between the mediolateral stability index and the functional balance scale scores. [Conclusion] The anteroposterior stability index correlated with the declines in postural adjustments and performance in the dynamic balance assessments. Therefore, the anteroposterior stability index, evaluated on an unstable board, could provide an efficient tool for predicting changes in dynamic balance capacity, which could not be identified using the most commonly used balance assessment tools.

: The acute effects of static stretching (SS) on dynamic balance, a key fitness component that contributes to injury prevention, has been a subject of significant debate. This study aimed to investigate the acute effect of short-duration SS exercises on dynamic balance following different recovery durations in youth female volleyball players. : Thirteen volunteers U-14 female players were included.

Carrier-free nanomedicines exhibited significant potential in elevating drug efficacy and safety for tumor management, yet their self assembly typically relied on chemical modifications of drugs or the incorporation of surfactants, thereby compromising the drug's inherent pharmacological activity. To address this challenge, we proposed a triethylamine (TEA)-mediated protonation-deprotonation strategy that enabled the adjustable-proportion self assembly of dual drugs without chemical modification, achieving nearly 100% drug loading capacity. Molecular dynamic simulations, supported by experiment evidence, elucidated the underlying self-assembly mechanism.

Aspartate (Asp) metabolism-mediated antioxidant functions have important implications for neonatal growth and intestinal health; however, the antioxidant mechanisms through which Asp regulates the gut microbiota and influences RIP activation remain elusive. This study reports that chronic oxidative stress disrupts gut microbiota and metabolite balance and that such imbalance is intricately tied to the perturbation of Asp metabolism. Under normal conditions, in vivo and in vitro studies reveal that exogenous Asp improves intestinal health by regulating epithelial cell proliferation, nutrient uptake, and apoptosis.

The cardiovascular risks linked to PM include calcification in both vasculature and myocardial tissues, leading to structural changes and functional decline. Through the selection of a clinically proven endogenous agent, sodium thiosulfate (STS), capable of addressing PM related cardiac abnormalities, we not only address the absence of effective solutions to mitigate PM toxicity, but also provide evidence for the repurposing potential of STS in ameliorating PM induced cardiac damage. Female Wistar rats were exposed to PM (250 μg/m) for 3 h daily for 21 days.

Aldosterone is a key regulator of fluid and electrolyte balance in the body. It is often dysregulated in heart failure (HF) and is a key driver of cardiac remodelling and worse clinical outcomes. Potassium regulation is essential for normal cardiac, gastrointestinal and neuromuscular function.
