Toxic and repellent effects of the essential oil from Fr. Schmidt var. mandshuricum (Maxim.) Kitag. were evaluated against and . The essential oils (EOs) from roots (ER) and leaves (EL) of were obtained separately by hydrodistillation and characterized by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. Major components of ER and EL included methyleugenol, safrole, and 3,5-dimethoxytoluene. Both ER and EL of showed certain toxicity and repellency against and . 3,5-Dimethoxytoluene, methyleugenol, and safrole were strongly toxic via fumigation to (LC = 4.99, 10.82, and 18.93 mg/L air, respectively). Safrole and 3,5-dimethoxytoluene possessed significant fumigant toxicity against (LC = 0.83 and 0.91 mg/L air, respectively). The three compounds all exhibited potent contact toxicity against the two insect species. Here, the EL of was confirmed to have certain toxicity and repellency against stored product insects, providing a novel idea for the comprehensive use of plant resources.

In this paper, we analyse the attitudes and sentiments of Romanian smallholders towards mole infestations, as expressed in online contexts. A corpus of texts on the topic of ground moles and how to get rid of them was collected from social media and blog thread discussions. The texts were analysed using topic modelling, clustering, and sentiment analysis, revealing both negative and positive sentiments and attitudes.

Polymeric membranes fabricated via the nonsolvent-induced phase separation process rely heavily on toxic aprotic organic solvents, like -methyl-pyrrolidine (NMP) and dimethylformamide. We suggest that the "saloplastic" nature of polyelectrolyte complexes (PECs) makes them an excellent candidate for fabricating next-generation water purification membranes that use a more sustainable aqueous phase separation process. In this study, we investigate how the properties of PECs and their interactions with salt can form pore-containing membranes from the strong polyelectrolytes poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSS) and poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDADMAC) in the presence of potassium bromide (KBr).
