Older adults are vulnerable to falls that result in injury and disability, making fall prevention a national priority. The purpose of the current study was to evaluate community-dwelling older adults' perceptions about falls and fall prevention activities to guide interventions. Participants had high awareness of falls and believed that they could reduce their risk of falling. Approximately three fourths of participants reported taking actions to reduce risk of falling; however, participation in community fall prevention programs was low. The survey used provides a method to help nurses identify targets for fall prevention interventions to reduce this physical health disparity in vulnerable older populations. The present study was designed to evaluate the protective efficacy of troxerutin against cypermethrin-induced behavioral defects, motor function abnormalities, and oxidative stress in mice. Twenty-four adult female albino mice were randomly divided into four equal groups. The first group served as control, the second group was treated with cypermethrin (20 mg/kg b.

Falls from escalators, although infrequent, can result in a wide array of injuries, ranging from minor lacerations to fatal outcomes. This retrospective study aims to detail the treatment and outcomes of eight patients who sustained blunt-force trauma from escalator falls and received care at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, California. Among these eight patients, seven required hospitalization, with three necessitating intensive care unit (ICU) admission, and two patients ultimately succumbing to their injuries.

Background: Fall prevention programmes are essential interventions in societies with aging populations. This study assessed the fall rate and other health outcomes, as well as the cost-effectiveness of a home-based fall prevention programme for community-dwelling older people. In a single home visit, trained physical or occupational therapists performed fall risk assessments, eliminated environmental risk factors, and provided tailored exercises.

Background: The effectiveness of implementing fall prevention interventions (FPI) among hospitalised adults exhibits variability. Our review explored implementation strategies for FPIs, how these strategies are operationalised and their impact on fall rates and adherence.

Methods: Databases were searched up to October 2024 for studies reporting the implementation of FPIs in hospitalised adults.

Falls prevention in an older adult mental health ward through a quality improvement initiative.

BMJ Open Qual

DIALOG Programme, Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Leatherhead, UK.

Falls in the inpatient units are the most frequently reported patient safety incidents and their consequences can be devastating. Risk factors for falls are broadly categorised into two factors-'extrinsic and intrinsic' and while the effect of functional mental health conditions on falls has not been extensively studied, older adults with dementia are at a higher risk of falling. Their impact could lead to delayed functional recovery, distress, increased length of hospital stays and an increased fear of falling.
