Developmental neuronal remodeling is crucial for proper wiring of the adult nervous system. While remodeling of individual neuronal populations has been studied, how neuronal circuits remodel-and whether remodeling of synaptic partners is coordinated-is unknown. We found that the Drosophila anterior paired lateral (APL) neuron undergoes stereotypic remodeling during metamorphosis in a similar time frame as the mushroom body (MB) ɣ-neurons, with whom it forms a functional circuit. By simultaneously manipulating both neuronal populations, we found that cell-autonomous inhibition of ɣ-neuron pruning resulted in the inhibition of APL pruning in a process that is mediated, at least in part, by Ca-Calmodulin and neuronal activity dependent interaction. Finally, ectopic unpruned MB ɣ axons display ectopic connections with the APL, as well as with other neurons, at the adult, suggesting that inhibiting remodeling of one neuronal type can affect the functional wiring of the entire micro-circuit.

Creatine monohydrate supplementation is widely used by athletes in high-intensity, power-based sports due to its ability to enhance short-term performance by increasing intramuscular phosphocreatine (PCr) stores, which aid in ATP resynthesis during intense muscle contractions. However, emerging evidence suggests that creatine monohydrate offers benefits beyond athletic performance. This narrative review explores the literature supporting the advantages of creatine supplementation in women, vegans, and clinical populations.

The gut-brain axis (GBA) is a complex communication network connecting the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) and the central nervous system (CNS) through neuronal, endocrine, metabolic, and immune pathways. Omega-3 (n-3) fatty acids, particularly eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), are crucial food components that may modulate the function of this axis through molecular mechanisms. Derived mainly from marine sources, these long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids are integral to cell membrane structure, enhancing fluidity and influencing neurotransmitter function and signal transduction.

The integration of different sensory streams is required to dynamically estimate how our head and body are oriented and moving relative to gravity. This process is essential to continuously maintain stable postural control, autonomic regulation, and self-motion perception. The nodulus/uvula (NU) in the posterior cerebellar vermis is known to integrate canal and otolith vestibular input to signal angular and linear head motion in relation to gravity.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) presents a significant challenge to global healthcare systems, with an exacerbation by an aging population. Although the plethora of hypotheses are proposed to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of AD, from amyloid-beta (Aβ) accumulation and Tau protein aggregation to neuroinflammation, a comprehensive understanding of its pathogenesis remains elusive. Recent research has highlighted the critical role of calcium (Ca) signaling pathway in the progression of AD, indicating a complex interplay between Ca dysregulation and various pathological processes.

Cognition relies on transforming sensory inputs into a generalizable understanding of the world. Mirror neurons have been proposed to underlie this process, mapping visual representations of others' actions and sensations onto neurons that mediate our own, providing a conduit for understanding. However, this theory has limitations.
