An experiment was conducted to evaluate the combined effect of temperature (26 and 30 °C) and Cr toxicity (0, 100 and 1000 μM Cr) on growth, photosynthesis, water content, Cr and nutrients uptake and translocation. The role of antioxidative enzyme towards stresses tolerance was also investigated. Results showed that the maximum relative growth rate and leaf area per plant of Atriplex halimus L. were recorded at 100 μM Cr and 26 °C. However, presence of Cr reduced net photosynthetic and stomatal conductance rates. Overall, temperature rise enhanced the toxic effect of Cr by reducing growth and photosynthesis and inducing antioxidant enzymes activities. Furthermore, temperature rise increased nutrient uptake, as well as nutrient translocation to aboveground tissues; while it diminished Cr translocation. Finally, roots were the main sink for Cr accumulation in A. halimus. At 1000 μM Cr, root Cr concentrations reached 7.2 and 9.1 mg g at 26 and 30 °C, respectively; while shoot Cr concentrations were 0.45 and 0.44 mg g (26 and 30 °C, respectively). The high Cr-accumulation in roots suggests that A. halimus presents a great potential for phytoremediation, especially phytostabilisation of Cr contaminated soils.

The incidence of heat-related illnesses and heatstroke continues to rise amidst global warming. Hyperthermia triggers inflammation, coagulation, and progressive multiorgan dysfunction, and, at levels above 40 °C, can even lead to cell death. Blood cells, particularly granulocytes and platelets, are highly sensitive to heat, which promotes proinflammatory and procoagulant changes.

The Fourth Engineering Co., LTD, China Railway Fourth Bureau, Hefei, 230012, People's Republic of China.

Research investigating the complex mechanical properties and energy evolution mechanisms of frozen calcareous clay under the influence of multiple factors is crucial for optimizing the artificial ground freezing method in shaft sinking, thereby enhancing construction quality and safety. In this study, a four-factor, four-level orthogonal test was devised, taking into account temperature, confining pressure, dry density, and water content. The complex nonlinear curvilinear relationship between deviatoric stress, volume strain, and axial strain of frozen calcareous clay under different interaction levels was analyzed.

State Key Laboratory for Quality Ensurance and Sustainable Use of Dao-di Herbs, National Resource Center for Chinese Materia Medica, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences Beijing 100700, China.

This study aims to identify the main chemical compounds, investigate the effects of different drying methods on the quality, and determine the appropriate drying method of Callicarpae Nudiflorae Folium. UPLC-UV-Q-TOF-MS was employed to characterize and identify 35 main compounds, including phenylethanoid glycosides, flavonoids, and iridoids in Callicarpae Nudiflorae Folium. A method for the simultaneous determination of 8 compounds with strong UV absorption and high content was established to evaluate the quality of Callicarpae Nudiflorae Folium dried by different methods.

High temperatures can impede the growth and development of soybean plants, resulting in decreased yield and seed quality. Heat-induced damage can be mitigated by adjusting sowing date and selecting genotypes that are suitable for cultivation in hot climates. A 2-year (2017-2018) field experiment was conducted at Safiabad Agricultural and Natural Resources Research and Education Center, employing a split-plot design with three replications.
