Crystalline retinopathies may be associated with different etiologies including genetic, toxic, degenerative, idiopathic, and iatrogenic causes. We outline the various types of crystalline retinopathies and summarize their associated etiologies, pathogenesis, clinical presentations, multimodal imaging findings, and management strategies.

Importance: Bietti crystalline dystrophy (BCD) is a severe genetic retinopathy caused by variants in the CYP4V2 gene. Currently, there is no approved treatment for BCD.
Objective: To evaluate safety and vision outcomes following gene therapy with adeno-associated virus (AAV) encoding CYP4V2 (rAAV-hCYP4V2, NGGT001 [Next Generation Gene Therapeutics]).

We present an unusual case of a macular lesion, possibly a spontaneously closed macular hole, at a 4-year follow-up visit, after lens-sparing vitrectomy (LSV) in stage 4A retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). Optical coherence tomography scans of the macula were suggestive of a spontaneously closed macular hole and fibrovascular proliferation at the equator. We hypothesise that tangential traction by residual posterior hyaloid could lead to late macular hole formation after LSV in ROP.

HSPB4 and HSPB5 (α-crystallins) have shown increasing promise as neuroprotective agents, demonstrating several anti-apoptotic and protective roles in disorders such as multiple sclerosis and diabetic retinopathy. HSPs are highly regulated by post-translational modification, including deamidation, glycosylation, and phosphorylation. Among them, T148 phosphorylation has been shown to regulate the structural and functional characteristics of HSPB4 and underlie, in part, its neuroprotective capacity.

Purpose: To identify the role of lipocalin-2 (LCN2) in diabetic cataract (DC) and diabetic retinopathy (DR), diabetes models were established in wild-type (WT) and LCN2 gene knockout (LCN2-/-) mice by streptozotocin (STZ), this study aimed to investigate the metabolic alterations and underlying pathways in the lens and retina.
Methods: Untargeted metabolomic analysis was performed on the lenses and retinas of WT and LCN2-/- diabetic mice, and relevant pathways were predicted through bioinformatics analysis.
Results: LCN2 was notably elevated in the anterior capsules of DC and the vitreous humor of DR.

Background: This study aims to provide an estimated dataset of lens zonule balance tension (LZBT) measurements in cataractous lenses among Chinese patients and to conduct a statistical analysis of anterior segment parameters.
Methods: This is a cross-sectional study. We included a total of 833 eyes from 833 Chinese participants aged 23-91 years who underwent cataract surgery.
