Allylboron reagents are popular in synthesis owing to their versatility and the predictable stereochemical outcomes of their reactions with carbonyl compounds. Herein, we describe the synthesis of (Z,Z)-hexadienyl bis-boronate 1, a configurationally stable, crystalline, and easy to handle compound, which represents a class of bis-allylic boron reagents with heretofore untapped synthetic potential. In combination with a chiral phosphoric acid catalyst, the reagent can be employed for the enantioselective allyl transfer reaction to a variety of one-pot transformations, enabling swift access to functionalized 1,n-diols. The in situ conversion of the reagent into the corresponding bis-borinic ester allows for the direct and diastereoselective two-fold allyl transfer to aldehydes. This affords C - or C -symmetric stereotetrads containing a 1,4-diol moiety for natural product synthesis. The usefulness of our method was demonstrated with a short synthesis of the lignan (±)-neo-olivil.

Using amines in catalytic transfer hydrogenation (TH) is challenging, despite their potential availability as a hydrogen source. Here, we describe a photoredox/nickel-catalyzed TH of alkyne through an intermediary aminoalkyl Ni species. This reaction successfully provided functionalized ()-alkenes, such as (homo)allyl ethers, alcohols, and amides (/ = up to >99:1), and the reaction thus bypasses a limitation of substrate scope in TH using amine and a Lindlar catalyst.

Polyurethane (PUR) soft foams release malodorous and potentially toxic compounds when exposed to oxidative conditions. Current chamber test methods cannot distinguish between pre-existing volatiles and those formed during oxidation, nor can they assess the formation rates of oxidation products. Herein, we report the rhodium-catalyzed -alkenyl transfer from tertiary allylic alcohols to aryl trifluoromethyl ketones, which provided an efficient way of preparation of trifluoromethyl-containing -allylic alcohols via β--alkenyl elimination. The key -alkenyl-rhodium species were generated with a high degree of stereochemical retention. This reaction featured a broad substrate scope and good functional tolerance and would offer a fascinating approach for the synthesis of -alkenes.
