  • A mixed-methods approach was used, conducting 27 surveys revealing that most physiotherapists have fixed-term contracts, low pay, and limited postgraduate training.
  • The findings highlight the need for improved working conditions, standards, and compensation for physiotherapists in public health institutions.

Article Abstract

Objective: To characterize the workplace of physiotherapists in the public health sector in Bogotá, Colombia.

Material And Methods: The workplace is considered as a social territory where the daily lives of people in productive activities area take place. A qualitative and quantitative exploratory study was designed. A convenience sample of physiotherapists working in the public health system of Bogotá was selected and a previously standardized survey, with relevant variables on the workplace, was applied.

Results: 27 customized surveys were conducted. Fixed-term contracts outnumbered open-ended contracts. The pay is low. Physiotherapists work mainly in healthcare management areas such as outpatient consultation and hospitalization. Postgraduate training is scarce.

Conclusions: Specific characteristics of the workplace of physiotherapists are described broadly and are compared to other studies. It is necessary to recognize the needs of human talent to contribute to the improvement of conditions in the workplace. Work standards for human talent in physiotherapy, working conditions and remuneration in public health institutions need to be developed.

Gene therapy is a rapidly developing field, finally yielding clinical benefits. Genetic engineering of organs for transplantation may soon be an option, thanks to convergence with another breakthrough technology, ex vivo machine perfusion (EVMP). EVMP allows access to the functioning organ for genetic manipulation prior to transplant.

The phylogeographic inference approach aims to connect genomic data with epidemiology to understand the spread and evolution of pathogens using visualization of spatiotemporal reconstructions. Orthohantavirus hantanense (HTNV), the causative agent of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), represents a significant global public health concern. Here, we introduce a localized Nextstrain platform for HTNV, offering a comprehensive resource for facilitating spatiotemporal genomic surveillance and the study of evolutionary dynamics of viral genomes.

The burden of pathogenic enteric protozoa and soil-transmitted helminths among impoverished populations living on the Texas-Mexico border is unclear. We conducted a cross-sectional study on an ongoing longitudinal cohort of 616 adults residing in Starr County, Texas. A total of 359 adults were screened for four protozoa and five soil-transmitted helminths by using real-time polymerase chain reaction.

The clinical application of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) is rapidly growing and has emerged as a cornerstone in the treatment of both solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. However, resistance to TKI targets and disease progression remain inevitable. Nanocarrier-mediated delivery has emerged as a promising strategy to overcome the limitations of the TKI application.
