Several studies reported alterations of the human gut microbiota (GM) during COVID-19. To evaluate the potential role of the GM as an early predictor of COVID-19 at disease onset, we analyzed gut microbial samples of 315 COVID-19 patients that differed in disease severity. Neuronal cytotoxic edema is implicated in neuronal injury and death, yet mitigating brain edema with osmotic and surgical interventions yields poor clinical outcomes. Importantly, neuronal swelling and its downstream consequences during early brain development remain poorly investigated, and new treatment approaches are needed. We explored Ca-dependent downstream effects after neuronal cytotoxic edema caused by diverse injuries in mice of both sexes using multiphoton Ca imaging in vivo [Postnatal Day (P)12-17] and in acute brain slices (P8-12).

Purpose: This study aims to investigate a multiparametric exchange proton approach using CEST and Z-spectrum analysis protons (ZAP) in human abdominal organs, focusing on tissue differentiation for a potential early biomarker of abnormality. Prior to human studies, CEST and ZAP effects were studied in phantoms containing exchange protons.
Methods: Phantoms composed of iopamidol and iohexol solutions with varying pH levels, along with 12 human subjects, were scanned on a clinical 3T MR scanner.

Cell-free extrachromosomal circular DNA (cf-eccDNA) has been proposed as a promising early biomarker for disease diagnosis, progression and drug response. Its established biomarker features are changes in the number and length distribution of cf-eccDNA. Another novel promising biomarker is a set of eccDNA excised from a panel of genes specific to a condition compared to a control.
