Objective: To investigate the chemical components of Ophioglossum thermale, one of the original species of Chinese medicine "Yizhijian".
Methods: The air-dried whole plant material of Ophioglossum thermale was extracted by thermal reflux with 95%Et OH,then separated and purified by joint utilization of various chromatography techniques including macroporous resin, silica gel,Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography and HPLC. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic methods.
Results: Six flavonoids were isolated and identified as 3-O-methylquercetin( 1),ophioglonol( 2),3-O-methylquercetin 7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside( 3),3-O-methylquercetin 7-O-β-D-glucopyraosyl-4’-O-β-D-glucopyranoside( 4),kaempferol 3-O-( 6-O-caffeoyl)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-( 1 →2)-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-7-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside( 5) and quercetin 3-O-( 6-O-caffeoyl)-β-D-glucopyranosyl( 1→2)-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-7-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside( 6).
Conclusion: Compounds 2 ~ 6 are isolated from this plant for the first time, compounds 5 and 6are firstly isolated from Ophioglossaceae family.

Background: Vanadium (VAN) is a significant trace element, but its higher exposure is reported to cause severe organ toxicity. Tectochrysin (TEC) is a naturally derived flavonoid which demonstrates a wide range of pharmacological properties.
Aim: The current study was planned to assess the cardioprotective potential of TEC against VAN induced cardiotoxicity in rats via regulating biochemical, and histological profile.

Nelumbo nucifera, an aquatic crop cultivated throughout Asian countries, belongs to the Nelumbonaceae family and has been widely used in traditional medicines with key pharmacological activities such as anti-viral, antipyretic, antioxidant, anti-steroid, anti-inflammatory, anti-arrhythmia, anti-obesity, and anti-aging properties. The present study aims to explore and assess the phytochemical composition, GC-MS profiling, antioxidant efficacy, and the major phytoconstituent phytol subjected to theoretical spectroscopic characterization using the DFT method. The phytochemical profiling of N.

The evolutionary conservation of type III polyketide synthases (PKS) in Selaginella has been elucidated, and the critical amino acid residues of the anther-specific chalcone synthase-like enzyme (SmASCL) have been identified. Selaginella species are the oldest known vascular plants and a valuable resource for the study of metabolic evolution in land plants. Polyketides, especially flavonoids and sporopollenin precursors, are essential prerequisites for plant land colonization.

Background: Lifestyle interventions targeting multiple Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk factors are effective strategies to prevent cognitive decline. Emerging evidence suggests synergistic effects between various intervention components, including lifestyle modifications, supplements, and pharmacological approaches. The PENSA study, part of the World-Wide FINGERs network, is a randomized, double-blind clinical trial following the Finger 2.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Alzheimer's disease (AD) treatment remains to be a challenge; this is due to the fact that the pathogenesis of the disease is very complicated and not well understood. Unquestionable is the fact that the pathological hallmarks of AD are accumulation of amyloid plaques, neurofibrillary tangles and mitochondrial dysfunction all leading to neuronal cell death. Mitochondrial dysfunction plays an important role in AD.
