Triticale (× Wittmack) is a man-made species developed by crossing wheat ( spp.) and rye ( L.). It incorporates favorable alleles from both progenitor species (wheat and rye), enabling adaptation to environments that are less favorable for wheat yet providing better biomass yield and forage quality. Triticale has huge potential for both grain and forage production, though research to improve the crop for better adaptation and grain quality is lagging behind that of other small grains. It is also gaining popularity as a cover crop to improve soil health and reduce nutrient leaching. Because of its genetic and flower structure, triticale is suitable for both line and hybrid breeding methods. Advances in the areas of molecular biology and the wealth of genomic resources from both wheat and rye can be exploited for triticale improvement. Gene mapping and genomic selection will facilitate triticale breeding by increasing selection precision and reducing time and cost. The objectives of this review are to summarize current triticale production status, breeding, and genetics research achievements and to highlight gaps for future research.

This study aims to measure the effects of different dietary concentrations of triticale hay (TH) on productive performance, carcass characteristics, microbial protein synthesis (MPS), ruminal and blood variables, and antioxidant power in 40 fattening male Gray Shirazi lambs (BW of 33.2 ± 1.1 kg) over 81 days in a completely randomized design (10 animals/diet).

Triticale grains and brewers' spent grain (BSG) can be new sources to develop food products. From a socio-economical point of view, this fact is important since triticale is easily adapted to the climatic changes and BSG is a low-cost material which may lead to a "zero-waste" desiderate. In this study, dough rheological properties obtained from different triticale cultivars (Ingen 33, Ingen 35, Ingen 54, and Ingen 93) cultivated in the Republic of Moldova and BSG in a fermented form (BSF) in an addition level of 10% and 17.

Our study investigates the intra- and interpopulation diversity of phytopathogenic fungi, using as a model organism. A total of 136 strains, representing two populations, were collected from different winter cereal crops (rye, wheat, and triticale) across two agrocenoses. In these strains, we analyzed and compared genetic and phenotypic traits, exploring potential relationships between them.

The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that both the winter triticale genotype and salinity treatment influence the photosynthesis efficiency and content of metabolites and proteins, including antioxidant enzymes, under field conditions, as well as that these parameters are correlated with yielding capacity. The research material involved four genotypes differing in their tolerance to stress in previous tests. Chlorophyll fluorescence parameters and antioxidant activity were assessed in the seedlings.

Ion mobility mass spectrometry (IMS) acts as an additional separation dimension when integrated into liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) workflows. LC-IMS-MS methods provide higher peak resolution, enhanced separation of isobaric and isomeric compounds, and improved signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) compared to traditional LC-MS methods. IMS provides another molecular characteristic for the identification of analytes, namely the collision cross section (CCS) parameter, reducing false positive results.
