genomic engineering is instrumental for studying developmental biology and regenerative medicine. Development of novel systems with more site-specific recombinases (SSRs) that complement with the commonly used Cre-loxP would be valuable for more precise lineage tracing and genome editing. Here, we introduce a new SSR system via Nigri-nox. By generating tissue-specific Nigri knock-in and its responding nox reporter mice, we show that the Nigri-nox system works efficiently by targeting specific tissues. As a new orthogonal system to Cre-loxP, Nigri-nox provides an additional control of genetic manipulation. We also demonstrate how the two orthogonal systems Nigri-nox and Cre-loxP could be used simultaneously to map the cell fate of two distinct developmental origins of cardiac valve mesenchyme in the mouse heart, providing dynamics of cellular contribution from different origins for cardiac valve mesenchyme during development. This work provides a proof-of-principle application of the Nigri-nox system for mouse genomic engineering. Coupled with other SSR systems, Nigri-nox would be valuable for more precise delineation of origins and cell fates during development, diseases and regeneration.

Objective Prior studies have described the patterns of emergency medical service (EMS) activations in national parks in the United States. However, little data exists regarding EMS activations in local and regional outdoor recreational locations. We performed a retrospective analysis of EMS activations originating from parks and recreational areas in suburban Howard County, Maryland, to characterize those activations determined to be time-critical emergencies.

A patient with known pulmonary atresia and intact ventricular septum and ductal stent presented with low cardiac output and arrythmia. Intraoperatively, the patient was found to have an anomalous left coronary artery arising from the pulmonary artery. After reimplantation of the left coronary artery to the aortic root and placement of a central shunt, the patient progressed well and was discharged home.

Undetected coronary anomalies at Norwood procedure are associated with poor prognosis due to inadequate myocardial protection. We report a case of anomalous origin of the right coronary artery from the main pulmonary artery trunk with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and aortic atresia. Although, during bilateral pulmonary artery banding as initial palliation, the proximity between the right coronary artery origin and the aortic root made a visual diagnosis difficult, it was diagnosed using computed tomography before the Norwood procedure.

Background: Aspirin has proved its efficacy in reducing the rate of preeclampsia in singleton pregnancy, however, there is discrepancy about the efficient dosage that should be used. While some societies recommend daily 75-81mg, others recommend higher dosage (160mg). This discrepancy is due to the lack of randomized controlled studies that compare these two dosages.

Background: The consumption of trans fatty acids (TFAs) increases the risk of heart disease morbidity and mortality. However, the relationship between measurable indicators of TFAs and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in general population remains unclear.
Methods: 1478 adult participants with complete information on circulating TFA and NT-proBNP levels from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 1999-2000 were included in our cross-sectional survey.
