Introduction: Despite the high effectiveness of Ponseti casting in treating idiopathic clubfoot, patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are not studied well in the literature, necessitating further investigation into PROs to evaluate the effect on patients' lives. We used the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) to evaluate PROs in children with Ponseti-treated clubfoot and assess the effect of recurrence on these PROs.

Methods: This study retrospectively reviewed medical records from patients ages 5 to 18 years treated for idiopathic clubfoot at a single institution from 2002 to 2023 with available PROMIS data for mobility, pain, and peer relationships.

[Current state of patient knowledge regarding the preoperative impact and causes of anemia].

Anaesthesiologie

January 2025

Klinik für Anästhesiologie, Intensivmedizin und Schmerztherapie, Universitätsklinikum Frankfurt, Frankfurt, Deutschland.

Background: Despite being treatable, the prevalence of anemia is relatively high, affecting up to 30% of the general population and 35% of patients undergoing surgery. Symptoms are often misinterpreted and patients frequently do not recognize anemia as a disease. As a result, it is often not discussed during medical consultations.

Lessons learned on obtaining reliable dynamic properties for ionic liquids.

Chemphyschem

January 2025

University of Sao Paulo Institute of Chemistry of Sao Carlos: Universidade de Sao Paulo Instituto de Quimica de Sao Carlos, Sao Carlos Institute of Chemistry, P.O. Box 780, 13560-970, Sao Carlos, BRAZIL.

Ionic liquids are nowadays investigated with respect to their use as electrolytes for high-performance energy storage materials. In this study, we provide a tutorial on how to calculate dynamic properties such as self-diffusion coefficients, ionic conductivities, transference numbers, as well as ion pair and ion cage dynamics, that all play a role in judging the applicability of ionic liquids as electrolytes.  For the case of the ionic liquid \ce{[C2C1Im][NTf2]}, we investigate the performance of different force fields.

Background: As far as we know, no study has investigated spontaneous postoperative shoulder imbalance (PSI) correction in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients. The objective is to assess the incidence of and associated factors for spontaneous PSI correction in AIS patients.

Methods: The study evaluated 144 postoperative AIS patients with PSI aged 10-20 years between 2010 and 2018.

Background: Identifying hip instability in symptomatic patients with borderline dysplasia of the hip (BDH) is of paramount importance, as it can influence both surgical decision-making and surgical outcomes. The femoroepiphyseal acetabular roof (FEAR) index is strongly affected by the hip adduction/abduction angle during the pelvic radiograph, which has not yet been considered in the recommended threshold values.

Purpose: To compare the corrected FEAR index in symptomatic patients with BDH treated with pelvic periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) or hip arthroscopy.
