Purpose: We report a case of localized endothelial decompensation due to airbag deployment during a motor vehicle accident.
Case Report: A middle-aged woman involved in a motor vehicle accident presented with diminution of vision in left eye. Initial ocular examination revealed corneal abrasion, localized central corneal edema and mild anterior chamber reaction. An anterior-segment ocular coherence tomography (AS-OCT) revealed focal paracentral corneal edema. Patient was managed with lubricating eye drops and antibiotic steroid combination. Significant endothelial cell loss compared to right eye was noted on specular examination. At one- month follow-up, visual acuity recovered to 6/6 but the pleomorphism and polymegathism persisted.
Conclusion: Airbag-related localized corneal endothelial decompensation is a less known occurrence. This case emphasizes on the fact that serial monitoring of endothelial counts and conservative management can prove beneficial in such scenarios.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of various tomographic indices, both established and novel, in predicting endothelial decompensation leading to either spontaneous corneal transplantation or transplantation following cataract surgery in patients with Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD).
Methods: In this cross-sectional, retrospective study, we reviewed the files of 93 eyes from 54 FECD patients undergoing regular follow-up. We recorded clinical metrics such as morning visual disturbance (MVD) and corrected distance visual acuity.

Purpose: To assess the safety and the efficacy of the "Sub-400 corneal cross-linking (CXL) protocol" for progressive keratoconus (KC) in ultrathin corneas.
Methods: The study included thirty four patients with progressive KC, who underwent CXL using the "Sub-400" protocol due to intraoperative thinnest corneal pachymetry ranging from 295 to 398 μm after epithelial removal. After the epithelium was removed, the following ultraviolet A irradiation was applied at a fluence of 3 mW/cm and the duration was adjusted based on the specific corneal stromal thickness.

Endothelial dysfunction (ED) is the in the background of multiple metabolic diseases and a key process in liver disease progression and cirrhosis decompensation. ED affects liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs) in response to different damaging agents, causing their progressive dedifferentiation, unavoidably associated with an increase in intrahepatic resistance that leads to portal hypertension and hyperdynamic circulation with increased cardiac output and low peripheral artery resistance. These changes are driven by a continuous interplay between different hepatic cell types, invariably leading to increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation, increased release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, and reduced nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability, with a subsequent loss of proper vascular tone regulation and fibrosis development.

Background/aims: To explore the outcomes of conjunctival flap (CF) followed by keratoplasty in patients with severe infectious keratitis (IK) unresponsive to medical treatment.
Methods: This is a retrospective monocentric study including 29 eyes of 29 patients with IK resistant to antibiotic treatment associated with stromal ulcer deepening to ≥50% of corneal thickness. All eyes underwent Gundersen's CF procedure and penetrating keratoplasty (PK), deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) or mushroom keratoplasty (MK), at least 4 months thereafter.

Glaucoma drainage devices (GDD) are used for patients with secondary glaucoma, such as uveitic or neovascular glaucoma, which is uncontrolled under local therapy.
