Beta-thalassemia major (β-TM) is a genetic disorder, prevalent especially in the Mediterranean region, Southeast Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. With improvements in management over the years, β-TM has transitioned from a fatal childhood disease to a chronic condition. However, in Pakistan, there is still a lack of a comprehensive national policy and strategic plan, which has resulted in a growing number of β-TM patients, placing a substantial burden on individuals and the national healthcare system.

Aim And Background: Hyperglycemia is a serious condition and associated with an increased risk of complications and mortality in both critically ill and non-critically ill people. Improvement in the glycemic level reduces the length of hospital stay, systemic infections and short- and long-term mortality. The aim was to test the effectiveness of insulin degludec vs insulin glargine and regular insulin in controlling blood sugar in patients with critical hyperglycemia.

This narrative review aimed to provide a deeper understanding of these techniques, emphasizing the need for larger-scale prospective trials to support evidence-based recommendations for surgeons.
Materials And Methods: We conducted a search of PubMed/Medline, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Google Scholar for English-language articles published between 1822 and 2023, using the following keywords: "chronic pectoralis major ruptures," "chronic pectoralis major tears," and "patient outcomes.
