Solid-state ion shuttles are of broad interest in electrochemical devices, nonvolatile memory, neuromorphic computing, and biomimicry utilizing synthetic membranes. Traditional design approaches are primarily based on substitutional doping of dissimilar valent cations in a solid lattice, which has inherent limits on dopant concentration and thereby ionic conductivity. Here, we demonstrate perovskite nickelates as Li-ion shuttles with simultaneous suppression of electronic transport via Mott transition. Electrochemically lithiated SmNiO (Li-SNO) contains a large amount of mobile Li located in interstitial sites of the perovskite approaching one dopant ion per unit cell. A significant lattice expansion associated with interstitial doping allows for fast Li conduction with reduced activation energy. We further present a generalization of this approach with results on other rare-earth perovskite nickelates as well as dopants such as Na The results highlight the potential of quantum materials and emergent physics in design of ion conductors.

Epilepsy, a prevalent neurological disorder characterized by spontaneous recurrent seizures, significantly impacts physiological and cognitive functions. Emerging evidence suggests a crucial role for metabolic factors, particularly lactate, in epilepsy. We discuss the applicability of the Astrocyte-Neuron Lactate Shuttle (ANLS) model during acute seizure events and examine lactate's metabolic adaptation in epilepsy progression.

Imperfections in metal halide perovskites, such as those induced by light exposure or thermal stress, compromise device performance and stability. A key challenge is immobilizing volatile iodine produced by iodide oxidation and regenerating impurities like elemental lead and iodine. Here, we address this by integrating a redox-active supramolecular assembly of nickel octaethylporphyrin into perovskite film, functioning as both an immobilizer and redox shuttle.

Background: Taekwondo is a complex martial art that requires speed, balance, agility, and endurance. This study aims to examine the effects of nitrate and L-arginine supplementation on acute aerobic and anaerobic performance, balance, agility, and recovery in elite taekwondo athletes.
Method: This study was conducted as a double-blind, randomized, crossover study with the participation of 15 experienced taekwondo athletes aged 19.

In this work, we developed a plasmid-based CRISPR-Cas9 strategy for editing Lactococcus cremoris, which allows easy generation of plasmid-free strains with the desired modification. We constructed versatile shuttle vectors based on the theta-type pAMβ1 promiscuous replicon and p15A ori, expressing both the Cas9 nuclease gene (under pH-regulated promoters derived from P170) and a single-guide RNA for specific targeting (under a strong constitutive promoter). The vectors designed for plasmid targeting were very effective for low- and high-copy-number plasmid curing in L.

Polysulfide shuttling and dendrite growth are two primary challenges that significantly limit the practical applications of lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs). Herein, a three-in-one strategy for a separator based on a localized electrostatic field is demonstrated to simultaneously achieve shuttle inhibition of polysulfides, catalytic activation of the Li-S reaction, and dendrite-free plating of lithium ions. Specifically, an interlayer of polyacrylonitrile nanofiber (PNF) incorporating poled BaTiO (PBTO) particles and coating with a layer of MoS (PBTO@PNF-MoS) is developed on the PP separator.
