Ultrasound may convert conjugated isoflavones into their corresponding aglycones, the best form for absorption in the human body. However, ultrasound may also influence the activity of endogenous β-glucosidase. Therefore, the present work evaluated the effects of soybean ultrasound pre-treatment by applying the Box-Behnken design prior to soaking, a step that is important for industries to prepare certain soy products. Furthermore, a multi-response optimisation is provided. The best conditions for soybean ultrasound pre-treatment were established as temperature, X = 55 °C; exposure time, X = 5 min and ultrasound intensity, X = 19.5 W cm. Under these conditions, soybeans with higher contents of aglycones were obtained and β-glucosidase activity was kept as high as possible. A second experiment was conducted and confirmed that ultrasound pre-treatment results in a lower soaking time (2 h) to achieve the highest moisture content, lower hardness as well as increased content of aglycones.

Background: This prospective study tested the hypothesis that the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value and tumor volume (TV) measured in diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) before, during, and after the treatment are quantitative imaging markers to assess tumor response in muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC).
Methods: Multi-parametric MRI was prospectively done for MIBC patients at 3 time points. Pre-treatment ADC value, pre-treatment TV, as well as, percent of changes (ΔADC%, and ΔTV%) in these parameters at mid- and post-treatment relative to baseline were calculated and compared between the patients with and without clinical complete response (CR).

The effects of T4 are mainly manifested by positive ino- and chronotropism. The syndrome accompanying hypothyroidism in rabbits (impaired myocardial contractility and reduced ejection capacity) is caused by a deficiency of thyroid hormones - especially T4. The study group consisted of a total of 41 animals: 15 males and 26 females, ranging in age from 2 months to 8 years, with echocardiogram showing reduced fractional shortening (<30%), with normal results of heamatological and biochemical tests.
