Everyone is affected directly or indirectly by pesticide use and safety. The magnitude and perception of this effect depend on one's individual involvement or vantage point. The researcher seeks discovery and the entrepreneur goes after financial rewards. The general public wants food, health and safety. Pesticide toxicology is a core issue in these relationships. The three goals of toxicology research on pesticides are first to create new knowledge and chemicals, second to evaluate their effectiveness and safety and third to regulate their use. What amounts of pesticides are applied and do we really understand their biology and chemistry? This review addresses the ABCs of pesticide toxicology, their amounts, biology and chemistry.

Organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) are widely used in agricultural production, posing a great threat to human health and the environment. Given that different OPs present different toxicology and toxicities, identifying individual pesticide residues becomes important for assessing food safety and environmental implications. In this work, a kinetics difference-driven analyte hydrolysis strategy is proposed for the first time and validated to identify -nitrophenyl pesticides by developing an organophosphorus hydrolase-like nanozyme-coded sensor array.

European honey bee (Apis mellifera) colonies are an ideal host to the invasive beetle Aethina tumida, providing a nutrient rich environment that is protected from the elements and facilitates beetle reproduction. Although various management techniques and chemical treatments for A. tumida have been developed, understanding the efficacy of these treatments and techniques is limited.

Breast cancer is a major public health problem, and distant metastases are the main cause of morbidity and mortality. Chlorpyrifos is an organophosphate that promotes Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition-like phenotype in breast cancer cell lines and modulates the Breast Cancer Stem Cells activating two key processes related to the metastatic cascade. Here, we investigated whether Chlorpyrifos may induce distant metastases in an in vivo triple negative tumor model.

Ecotoxicity assessments, which rely on animal testing, face serious challenges, including high costs and ethical concerns. Computational toxicology presents a promising alternative; nevertheless, existing predictive models encounter difficulties such as limited datasets and pronounced overfitting. To address these issues, we propose a framework for predicting pesticide ecotoxicity using graph contrastive learning (PE-GCL).
