Liberating critical pedagogy of Paulo Freire in the scientific production of Nursing 1990-2017.

Rev Bras Enferm

Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Published: January 2019

Objective: To analyze the theoretical and methodological application of Paulo Freire's critical pedagogy in the scientific production of nursing.

Method: An integrative review was carried out with consultation of the databases: LILACS, BDENF, MEDLINE, PUDMED and CINHAL. We included studies in the Spanish, English and Portuguese languages, published from 1990 to 2017.

Results: A total of 38 articles were analyzed, of which the main concepts adopted were: dialogue/dialogicity, awareness/critical awareness and questioning. Regarding the application of the method, it was noticed the predominance of the adoption of elements such as culture circles, thematic phase and horizontality relation of the nurse with the individuals involved.

Conclusion: Nursing has partially appropriated the Freire's referential. However, it reveals the intentionality of a transformative practice that requires deepening for the implementation of the method in its full.

Background & Objective: Chronic suppurative otitis media is a fatal condition owing to its propensity for intracranial extension. The inadvertent use of antibiotics has led to resistance among causative organisms. The objectives of this study were to determine causative bacteria, their antibiotic resistance and susceptibility patterns, and their response to antibiotics after a one-month follow-up.

Semaphorin-4D signaling in recruiting dental stem cells for vascular stabilization.

Stem Cell Res Ther

January 2025

Applied Oral Sciences and Community Dental Care, Faculty of Dentistry, Prince Philip Dental Hospital, The University of Hong Kong, 34 Hospital Road, Sai Ying Pun, Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR.

Background: Achieving a stable vasculature is crucial for tissue regeneration. Endothelial cells initiate vascular morphogenesis, followed by mural cells that stabilize new vessels. This study investigated the in vivo effects of Sema4D-Plexin-B1 signaling on stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED)-supported angiogenesis, focusing on its mechanism in PDGF-BB secretion.

Background: Pain and depression are common complications in patients with advanced cancer, which significantly affects their quality of life and survival. Dysregulation of the JAK/STAT3 pathway in the central nervous system is associated with pain and brain inflammatory disorders, but its role in bone cancer pain (BCP) remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the specific role of the JAK/STAT3 pathway in the amygdala in BCP.

Non-medicinal oral contrast in upper abdominal MRI for MR-guided radiotherapy: A scoping review.

Radiography (Lond)

January 2025

Radiotherapy, Leeds Cancer Centre, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, UK; Leeds Institute of Medical Research, University of Leeds, Leeds, UK; NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre, Leeds, UK.

Introduction: Using non-medicinal oral contrast agents may aid safe delivery of magnetic resonance image-guided (MR-guided) radiotherapy by improving the ability to visualise and avoid excessive radiation dose to adjacent bowel/stomach. This scoping review aims to map the literature on non-medicinal oral contrasts used in upper-abdominal diagnostic or therapeutic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to find potential candidates for employing in MR-guided radiotherapy and identify gaps in knowledge for further study.

Methods: A scoping review of non-medicinal oral contrast used in upper-abdominal MRI research followed a pre-defined protocol based on Arksey and O'Malley's framework.
