Kinetic doping has previously been shown to be an effective method of doping silica sol-gel thin films with an enzyme to construct biosensors. Until now, kinetic doping has only been applied to films produced through the spin-coating method. In this study, we present the use of dip-coating to produce thin films kinetically doped for biosensor development. In this way, kinetically doped biosensors may benefit from the increased range of substrate material shapes and sizes that may be easily coated through dip-coating but not spin-coating. The biosensors produced through dip-coating continue to show enhanced performance over more conventional enzyme loading methods with horseradish peroxidase and cytochrome C samples, showing an increase of 2400× and 1300× in enzyme concentration over that in their loading solutions, respectively. These correspond to enzyme concentrations of 5.37 and 10.57 mmol/L all while preserving a modest catalytic activity for the detection of hydrogen peroxide by horseradish peroxidase. This leads to a 77% and 88% increase in the total amount of horseradish peroxidase and cytochrome C, respectively, over that from coating the same glass coverslip via spin-coating methods.

Li-ion capacitors (LICs) integrate the desirable features of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and supercapacitors (SCs), but the kinetic imbalance between the both electrodes leads to inferior electrochemical performance. Thus, constructing an advanced anode with outstanding rate capability and terrific redox kinetics is crucial to LICs. Herein, heterostructured ZnS/SnS2 nanosheets encapsulated into N-doped carbon microcubes (ZnS/SnS2@NC) are successfully fabricated.

Hydrogen peroxide (HO) electrosynthesis via the 2e oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is considered as a cost-effective and safe alternative to the energy-intensive anthraquinone process. However, in more practical environments, namely, the use of neutral media and air-fed cathode environments, slow ORR kinetics and insufficient oxygen supply pose significant challenges to efficient HO production at high current densities. In this work, mesoporous B-doped carbons with novel curved BC active sites, synthesized via a carbon dioxide (CO) reduction using a pore-former agent, to simultaneously achieve excellent 2e ORR activity and improved mass transfer properties are introduced.

Improving the alkaline hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) efficiency is essential for developing advanced anion exchange membrane water electrolyzers (AEMWEs) that operate at industrial ampere-level currents. Herein, we employ density functional theory (DFT) calculations to identify Ni-RuO2 as the leading candidate among various 3d transition metal-doped M-RuO2 (where metal M includes Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn). The incorporation of Ni atoms facilitates the partial reduction of RuO2, resulting in the formation of a Ni-Ru/RuO2 interface having a significant built-in electric field (BIEF) during electrochemical reactions.

Hematite is a promising material for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation, but its photocurrent is limited by bulk charge recombination and poor oxidation kinetics. In this study, we report a high-performance FeO photoanode achieved through gradient surface gallium doping, utilizing a GaO overlayer on FeOOH precursors via atomic layer deposition (ALD) and co-annealing for Ga diffusion. The Ga-doped layer passivates surface states and modifies the band structure, creating a built-in electric field that enhances the charge separation efficiency.

Carbon dot-based nanozymes have gained significant attention, but their application in dye degradation remains limited due to low activity and challenges in recovery and reuse. To overcome these limitations, high peroxidase-active Co-doped carbon dots (CoCDs) with surface amines were synthesized via hydrothermal method and immobilized onto TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibrils (TOCNF) aerogels using EDC/NHS coupling. For the first time, this study investigates the dye degradation efficiency of CDs nanozyme.
