The sterols β-sitostenone (), stigmast-4,6,8(14),22-tetraen-3-one (), β-sitosterol () and stigmasterol (), the aromatic derivatives antiarol () and gentisic acid (), the phenylpropanes coniferyl alcohol (), epoxyconiferyl alcohol () and ferulic acid (), the apocarotenoid vomifoliol (), the flavonoids naringenin (), 7,4'-dimethoxytaxifolin (7,4'-dimethoxydihydroquercetin, ), aromadendrin (), kaempferol (), taxifolin (dihydroquercetin, ), prunin (naringenin-7--β-d-glucoside, ), populnin (kaempferol-7--β-d-glucoside, ) and senecin (aromadendrin-7--β-d-glucoside, ) and the lignans kobusin () and pinoresinol (), were isolated from the dried bark of Spreng (Cochlospermaceae), a Mexican medicinal plant used to treat jaundice, liver ailments and hepatitis C. Fourteen of these compounds were isolated for the first time from this plant and from the genus. Compounds ⁻, ⁻, ⁻, ⁻ and have previously exhibited diverse beneficial liver activities. The presence of these compounds in correlates with the use of this Mexican medicinal plant.

Post-transcriptional regulation of aromatic amino acid metabolism by GcvB small RNA in .

Microbiol Spectr

Department of Infection Biology, Institute of Medicine, University of Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan.

synthesizes aromatic amino acids (AAAs) through the common pathway to produce the precursor, chorismate, and the three terminal pathways to convert chorismate into Phe, Tyr, and Trp. also imports exogenous AAAs through five transporters. GcvB small RNA post-transcriptionally regulates more than 50 genes involved in amino acid uptake and biosynthesis in , but the full extent of GcvB regulon is still underestimated.

Recent work has demonstrated that the soluble photoconvertable fluorescent protein mEOS can be a reporter for AAA+ (ATPases Associated with diverse cellular Activities) unfoldase activity. Given that many AAA+ proteins process membrane proteins, we sought to adapt mEOS for use with membrane protein substrates. However, direct genetic fusion of mEOS to a membrane protein completely abolished fluorescence, severely limiting the utility of mEOS for studying AAA+ proteins.

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) poses a significant health risk due to its silent nature and high mortality upon rupture. The Fib-4 index, initially designed for liver fibrosis assessment, presents potential beyond its scope. This study aims to investigate the association of FIB-4 with aneurysm size and mortality risk, exploring its utility as a risk predictor for enhanced clinical management.

Future directions in the evaluation and management of newly diagnosed metastatic cancer.

Crit Rev Oncol Hematol

January 2025

Department of Radiation Oncology, University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland, OH, USA. Electronic address:

There is a much debate regarding optimal selection in patients with metastatic cancer who should undergo local treatment (surgery or radiation treatment) to the primary tumor and/or metastases. Additionally, the optimal treatment of newly diagnosed metastatic cancer is largely unclear. Current prognostication systems to best inform these clinical scenarios are limited, as all metastatic patients are grouped together as having Stage IV disease without further incorporation of patient and disease-specific covariates that significantly impact patient outcomes.

Objective: This study aimed to compare treatment outcomes between graft replacement and aneurysmorrhaphy with ligation of the aortic side branches for type 2 endoleaks after endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) for abdominal aortic aneurysms.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed multicenter data of patients who underwent open surgical conversion, including graft replacement or aneurysmorrhaphy with ligation of the aortic side branches (graft preservation) for the treatment of type 2 endoleaks between 2007 and 2022. The endpoints were postoperative complications, 30-day mortality, overall survival, and reintervention or sac expansion after open surgical conversion.
