The new non-centrosymmetric tin fluoride borate Sn [B O ]F was synthesized hydrothermally, and was characterized by single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, vibrational spectroscopy, DFT calculations, second harmonic generation (SHG) measurements, thermogravimetry, and differential scanning calorimetry. Its SHG response is about 12 times that of quartz. The compound crystallizes in the non-centrosymmetric orthorhombic space group Pna2 with lattice parameters a=922.4(2), b=769.8(4), and c=1221.9(6) pm (Z=4). Characteristic for the structure are isolated B O moieties, consisting of two corner-sharing BO units and one BO tetrahedron. These occupy half of the octahedral voids of a slightly distorted hexagonal closest packing of Sn atoms, with [SnF] units in the other half of the octahedral voids. Sn [B O ]F is transparent over a wide spectral range with a UV cut-off edge at about 263 nm.

Biomarker detection has emerged as an essential complementary approach for early-stage screening of tumors. Conventional methods are constrained by bulky systems, cumbersome operation steps, and low detection accuracy. Here, we demonstrate a dual-resonance optimally configured lossy mode resonance (LMR) immunoprobe for detecting prostate-specific antigen (PSA), a biomarker for prostate cancer (PCa).

Background: The tin filter has allowed radiation dose reduction in some standalone diagnostic computed tomography (CT) applications. Yet, 'low-dose' CT scans are commonly used in positron emission tomography (PET)-CT for lesion localisation/characterisation (L/C), with higher noise tolerated. Thus, dose reductions permissible with the tin filter at this image quality level may differ.

Background: This study compared the extrinsic tooth stain removal efficacy of a 0.454% stannous fluoride dentifrice stabilized with nitrate and phosphates (SNaP) versus a non-whitening regular fluoride dentifrice (negative control) after 3 and 6 weeks of product use.
Methods: This phase III, double-blind, randomized, two-cell, parallel-group study was conducted on 80 healthy adults in Puerto Rico.

Background: Oral malodor, whether from systemic disease, dietary sources, or bacteria in the oral cavity, can negatively impact patients' quality of life. Oral malodor due to bacteria in the oral cavity can be managed by mechanically or chemically removing bacteria. Dentifrices are ideal vehicles to deliver therapeutic active ingredients that promote and maintain oral health since most consumers brush their teeth daily.
