Reliable monitoring of solution crystallization processes is important to provide further insight into process dynamics and to improve process control in the regimen of Process Analytical Technology (PAT), e.g. as the case studied here: detection of crystallization of the anhydrous and monohydrate forms of Citric Acid (CA). To set up the relationship between acoustic emission (AE) and crystallization form, two experiments (monohydrate and anhydrous citric acid) were carried out to specify the features and origins of the different acoustic signals emitted during batch cooling solution crystallization processes. Two kinds of AE experimental variables convey information about the development of crystallization processes: frequency and acoustic energy variables. The experimental results show notably that though it has less acoustic bursts, the acoustic activity generated by the crystallization of the monohydrate form of CA actually releases more acoustic energy than the crystallization of anhydrous form. It is also shown that the form of the crystallization is associated with the percentage of absolute energy. The proportion of the absolute energy [150-700 KHz] released by CA (43% of total absolute energy) in the total energy [0-700 KHz] is much more than that of CA (3% of total absolute energy).

At present, in the context of the highly intensive development of livestock and poultry breeding, digital management is becoming increasingly important, and digital twin systems are gradually being applied. To solve the contradiction between data acquisition and sensor network congestion, a virtual acquisition method based on historical data and real-time reference of point data is proposed when constructing a digital twin system. Firstly, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation was used to analyze and determine the temperature distribution and environmental characteristics inside the layer house, and the collection area was preliminarily divided according to the CFD simulation results.

Background: The identification of novel blood-based biomarkers of small vessel disease of the brain (SVD) may improve pathophysiologic understanding and inform the development of new therapeutic strategies for prevention. We evaluated plasma proteomic associations of white matter fractional anisotropy (WMFA), white matter hyperintensity (WMH) volume, enlarged perivascular space (ePVS) volume, and the presence of microbleeds (MB) on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the population-based Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA).
Methods: Eligible MESA participants had 2941 plasma proteins measured from stored blood samples (collected in 2016-2018) using the antibody-based Olink proteomics platform, and completed brain MRI scans in 2018-2019.
Background: The MIND randomized clinical trial demonstrated that the effect of the 3-year MIND diet intervention on cognition was no different than the calorie-restricted usual diet in overweight, non-demented, older adults. However, compliance with dietary interventions may have differed among the participants within the intervention groups. We assessed the adherence to MIND diet (MIND score) and and evaluated the association with global cognition.

The light-harvesting pigment-protein complex II (LHCII) from plants can be used as a component for biohybrid photovoltaic devices, acting as a photosensitizer to increase the photocurrent generated when devices are illuminated with sunlight. LHCII is effective at photon absorption in the red and blue regions of the visible spectrum, however, it has low absorption in the green region (550-650 nm). Previous studies have shown that synthetic chromophores can be used to fill this spectral gap and transfer additional energy to LHCII, but it was uncertain whether this would translate into an improved performance for photovoltaics.

Spectroscopic properties of Tb-doped and Tb-Ag codoped lithium tetraborate (LTB) glasses with LiBO (or LiO-2BO) composition are investigated and analysed using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), optical absorption, photoluminescence (PL) and photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectra, PL decay kinetics and absolute quantum yield (QY) measurements. PL spectra of the investigated glasses show numerous narrow emission bands corresponding to the D → F (J = 6-0) and D → F (J = 5-3) transitions of Tb (4f) ions. The most intense PL band of Tb ions at 541 nm (D → F transition) is characterised by a lifetime slightly exceeding 2.
