A two-dimensional position-sensitive microchannel plate detector, with a Ø100 mm sensitive area and equipped with four integrated amplifiers, is realized with a new anode scheme. The anode is constructed by two independent one-dimensional resistive anodes, each consisting of an array of parallel copper strips connected by resistors in series on a printed circuit board (PCB). The arrays are perpendicularly aligned to realize two-dimensional position resolution, with the intervals between the adjacent strips on the PCB nearer to the microchannel plate cut out to allow electrons passing through. The detector is tested with an Fe x-ray source, and a position resolution of 0.38 mm is achieved.

A High-Precision Micro-Roll Forming Facility for Fuel Cell Metal Bipolar Plate Production.

The metal bipolar plate is a critical component of the hydrogen fuel cell stack used in proton exchange membrane fuel cells. Bipolar plates must have high accuracy micro-channels with a high aspect ratio () between the channel depth and the half periodic width to achieve optimal cell performance. Conventional forming methods, such as micro-stamping, hydroforming, and rubber pad forming, cannot achieve these high ARs given that in these processes, material deformation is dominated by stretch deformation.

This research presents a numerical study over the unsteady natural convection of an electrically conducting fluid in an open-ended vertical parallel plate microchannel under uniform and asymmetric heat flux subjected to a uniform lateral magnetic field. Slip velocity, as well as temperature jump at channel walls, are modeled using a first-order model. The effects of Knudsen number)(, heat flux ratio)rq(, Grashof number)(, and Hartmann number)M(on mass flow rate, the maximum temperature of the wall, and average Nusselt () as a function of time are discussed.

Article Synopsis
  • A new pulse-dilated photomultiplier tube (PD-PMT) has been engineered for precise signal detection and amplification in inertial confinement fusion, featuring a remarkable temporal resolution of sub-20 picoseconds.
  • This device utilizes electron pulse dilation, transforming incoming signals into a cloud of free electrons that are manipulated with electric and magnetic fields, allowing for high-speed detection.
  • The investigation included measuring the relationship between microchannel plate gain and electron energy, leading to improved accuracy in signal measurement and providing valuable insights for future enhancements.

Fractional calculus is emerging as a promising field to overcome the intricacies inherent in biological systems that prevent conventional techniques from producing optimal results. The present research emphasizes the impact of thermal radiation, chemical reactions, and radiation absorption on an electroosmotic magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) blood-based Jeffrey hybrid nanofluid flow in a microchannel, employing the novel Caputo-Fabrizio fractional calculus approach. This study is carried out on two models: ramped and constant boundary conditions with distinct zeta potentials.
