The reaction of the copper(II) diclofenac complex [Cu(dicl)(HO)] (1) (dicl = deprotonated diclofenac (Hdicl)) with the chelating N-donor ligands ethylenediamine (en), propan-1,3-diamine (pn), unsymmetrical dimethylethylene-diamine (unsym-dmen) and N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylene-diamine (temed) in methanol-water (4:1 v/v) yielded the novel copper(II) complexes [Cu(en)(HO)](dicl)·2HO (2), [Cu(pn)(HO)](dicl)·2HO (3), [Cu(unsym-dmen)(HO)](dicl)·HO (4) and [Cu(temed)(dicl)] (5), respectively. All the synthesized complexes were characterized by spectroscopic (UV-vis, FT-IR) methods. The structures of complexes 2, 3 and 5 were unambiguously determined by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. X-ray structures of complexes clearly revealed the ionic structure of complexes 2, 3 and the covalent structure of complex 5. The geometry of complex 4 was optimized by Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. The ability of the complexes 1-5 to bind to calf-thymus DNA was monitored in vitro by diverse techniques (UV-vis spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, viscosity measurements) and via competitive studies with ethidium bromide. The interaction of complexes 1-5 with bovine serum albumin was studied in vitro by fluorescence emission spectroscopy and the corresponding binding constants were calculated. The biological behavior of complexes 1-5 was compared with previously reported Cu(II), Mn(II) and Ni(II) complexes of diclofenac.

The analogous reaction of with [(COD)MI] and pyridine resulted in the formation of the analogous compounds and with hydride in place of methyl.

We report the synthesis and characterization of a series of high- and low-spin dicobalt complexes of the PNNP expanded pincer ligand. Reacting this dinucleating ligand in its neutral form with two equiv of CoCl(tetrahydrofuran) yields a high-spin dicobalt complex featuring one Co inside and one Co outside of the dinucleating pocket. Performing the same reaction in the presence of two equivalents of KOtBu provides access to a high-spin dicobalt complex wherein both Co centers are bound within the PNNP pocket, and this complex also features a bridging OtBu ligand.

The Renin-Angiotensin System (RAS) is a complex neuroendocrine system consisting of a single precursor protein, angiotensinogen (AGT), which is processed into various peptide hormones, including the angiotensins [Ang I, Ang II, Ang III, Ang IV, Ang-(1-9), Ang-(1-7), Ang-(1-5), etc] and Alamandine-related peptides [Ang A, Alamandine, Ala-(1-5)], through intricate enzymatic pathways. Functionally, the RAS is divided into two axes with opposing effects: the classical axis, primarily consisting of Ang II acting through the AT receptor (ATR), and in contrast the protective axis, which includes the receptors Mas, ATR and MrgD and their respective ligands. A key area of RAS research is to gain a better understanding how signaling cascades elicited by these receptors lead to either "classical" or "protective" effects, as imbalances between the two axes can contribute to disease.
