Purpose: To quantify the reliability and agreement of sodium (Na) MRI in calf muscle and skin of healthy subjects and to measure the smallest real difference (SRD) in each.
Subjects And Methods: Thirty healthy subjects underwent Na MRI studies of the calf. A scan-rescan protocol was performed the same day and 1 week later. Relative sodium concentration was measured in the calf muscle and skin and compared between studies.
Results: A high degree of reliability was confirmed between the scan and rescan tests using linear regression analysis. The Bland-Altman plots indicated high agreement between runs in all regions. The SRD was measured between scans taken the same day and one week later. Correlations were also reported with age, gender and race.
Conclusions: Reliability and agreement of Na MRI in the calf muscle and skin show promise for accurately assessing serial changes in patients.

Hoffmann syndrome, a rare manifestation of hypothyroid myopathy in adults, is characterised by muscle weakness, stiffness and pseudohypertrophy. Here, we report the case of a middle-aged man who presented with progressive weakness in proximal muscles (in the form of difficulty in climbing stairs, rising from a seated position, combing hair and lifting objects) and leg swelling for 6 months. Physical examination revealed pseudohypertrophy of calf muscles with pronounced symmetric weakness in proximal upper and lower limbs.

The purpose was to answer what is the relationship between torques acting on the human body, how does the triceps calf muscle balance the weight of a tilted body and what is the foot's role in the titling body? Two research models were developed. Model 1 - the one-sided lever system consists of a flat bar with, an axis of rotation, used to determine the weight and torque at a given point on it. Model 2 - the two-sided lever system consists of a flat bar imitating a tilted body counteracted by the Achilles tendon, and a platform imitating a foot.

Objectives: To evaluate the value of ultrasound (US) and shear wave velocity (SWV) to assess muscle in postmenopausal women with osteosarcopenia (OSP).
Methods: This study included 145 postmenopausal women, comprising 115 osteopenia/osteoporosis participants without sarcopenia (OP alone) and 30 OSP participants. All received the evaluation of bone mineral density (BMD), appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (ASMI), handgrip strength, calf circumference, 6-meter walking speed, and 5-time chair stand test.

This study evaluated metabolites and lipid composition in the calf muscles of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients and age-matched healthy controls using multi-dimensional MR spectroscopic imaging. We also explored the association between muscle metabolites, lipids, and intra-abdominal fat in T2DM. Participants included 12 T2DM patients (60.

Background: Malnutrition is a significant challenge in stroke patients, affecting both rehabilitation and independence. This study aims to evaluate whether early L-carnitine supplementation can effectively improve anthropometric parameters and malnutrition status in acute-phase ischemic stroke patients to mitigate the catabolic state.
Methods: Eighty-two first-ever ischemic stroke patients were randomly assigned to either the L-carnitine group (1000 mg three times/day for seven consecutive days) or the matching placebo group.
