Laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) is a minimally invasive surgical approach. Initially utilized for low-risk procedures, such as the resection of benign lesions, now LLR has evolved to include more complex operations such as metastatic lesions. We present in this article two cases with liver metastasis who underwent a successful two-stage total LLR: a 57-year-old man diagnosed with sigmoid cancer and liver metastasis and a 36-year-old man diagnosed with pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor and liver metastasis.

Screening for Lynch syndrome (LS) is essential in colorectal carcinoma (CRC) diagnosis. The hallmark of CRC in LS is mismatch repair (MMR) deficiency, a vital biomarkers assessed by microsatellite instability (MSI) analysis and/or immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining of the MMR proteins in the tumor, that also predict response to immune checkpoint inhibitors. We report two LS patients who developed MMR proficient CRCs.

Article Synopsis
  • - Malignant struma ovarii (MSO) is a rare type of ovarian goiter that meets criteria for malignant thyroid tumors and can show invasive spread, with serum thyroglobulin (Tg) levels helping to differentiate it from other ovarian cancers.
  • - A case study is presented involving a 54-year-old woman with abdominal pain, diagnosed post-surgery with highly differentiated follicular thyroid carcinoma originating from both ovaries, which had spread to other areas.
  • - After undergoing total thyroidectomy and iodine-131 treatment, her follow-up after one year showed no significant abnormalities, highlighting the need for further discussion on clinical management and monitoring of Tg levels in MSO cases.

A reactive nodular fibrous pseudotumor (RNFP) is a rare benign tumor that is related to previous abdominal surgery, injury, or inflammation, and in patients with a history of malignancy; it is easily misdiagnosed as tumor recurrence or metastasis. We discuss the case of an 80-year-old patient who presented to the emergency department with a large non-reducible inguinal hernia. The patient was taken to the operating room for an open hernia repair through an inguinal incision.

Background: The majority of colorectal malignancies are primary tumors. Secondary tumors are rare, and colorectal metastasis from endometrial carcinoma is exceptionally uncommon. We report a case of serous endometrial carcinoma that metastasized to the sigmoid colon, initially presenting as a primary colon carcinoma due to bowel obstruction.
