Limb lengthening and deformity correction techniques, particularly distraction osteogenesis, have significantly evolved in pediatric orthopedics. This study examines the temporal changes of key biochemical markers-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), fibroblast growth factor 1 (FGF-1), and the propeptide of type I collagen (P1NP)-during the limb lengthening process. Twenty pediatric patients (aged 13-16) underwent distraction osteogenesis using the Circular Hexapod External Fixator.

Introduction: Trauma and hemorrhagic shock (T/HS) are associated with multiple organ injury. Antithrombin (AT) has anti-inflammatory and organ protective activity through its interaction with endothelial heparan sulfate containing a 3-O-sulfate modification. Our objective was to examine the effects of T/HS on 3-O-sulfated (3-OS) heparan sulfate expression and determine whether AT-heparan sulfate interactions are necessary for its anti-inflammatory properties.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of Rho-associated protein kinase (ROCK) inhibitor Y27632 on bioenergetic capacity and resilience of corneal endothelial cells (CECs) under metabolic stress.

Methods: Bovine CECs (BCECs) were treated with Y27632 and subjected to bioenergetic profiling using the Seahorse XFp Analyzer. The effects on adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production through oxidative phosphorylation and glycolysis were measured.

Type IV collagen expression is regulated by Notch3-mediated Notch signaling during angiogenesis.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

January 2025

Graduate School of Engineering, Kogakuin University, Tokyo, Japan; Department of Chemistry and Life Science, School of Advanced Engineering, Kogakuin University, Tokyo, Japan. Electronic address:

Angiogenesis, the process of new blood vessel formation, involves endothelial cell proliferation and migration, accompanied by the remodeling of the extracellular matrix (ECM). Type IV collagen, a major ECM component, plays a critical role in vascular basement membrane regeneration, influencing cell polarity, migration, and survival. This study examines the regulatory role of Notch signaling, mediated by Notch3, in type IV collagen expression using TIG-1 fibroblasts and a co-culture angiogenesis model with human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs).

Asperulosidic acid inhibits the PI3K/Akt/NF-κB pathway to suppress endotoxin-induced uveitis.

Front Med (Lausanne)

January 2025

Department of Ophthalmology, Chongqing Key Laboratory for the Prevention and Treatment of Major Blinding Eye Diseases, The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing, China.

Introduction: Uveitis, a severe inflammatory disease affecting the uvea, is associated with visual impairment and irreversible blindness. Asperulosidic Acid (ASPA), derived from , is known for its notable anti-inflammatory and antioxidant characteristics.

Methods: The present study explored the potential anti-inflammatory effects and the fundamental processes of ASPA by injecting it or a placebo into the vitreous of rats with endotoxin-induced uveitis (EIU).
