A novel, electrochemically synthesized, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) formulation was evaluated against , , , and strains from cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. AgNPs were particularly active against and planktonic cells (median MIC: 1.06 and 2.12 μg/ml, respectively) by a rapid, bactericidal and concentration-dependent effect. AgNPs showed to be particularly effective against and biofilm causing a viability reduction ranging from 50% (1×MIC) to >99.9% (4×MIC). Electron microscopy showed that AgNPs deconstruct extracellular matrix of biofilm, and accumulate at the cell surface causing cell death secondary to membrane damage. Compared to Tobramycin, AgNPs showed comparable, or even better, activity against planktonic and biofilm cells. AgNPs at concentrations effective against and . were not toxic to larvae. Our silver-based formulation might be an alternative to antibiotics in CF patients. Further and studies are warranted to confirm this therapeutic potential.

Electrochemically synthesized HO at industrial-level current densities enabled by in situ fabricated few-layer boron nanosheets.

Jiangsu Co-Innovation Center of Efficient Processing and Utilization of Forest Resources, Nanjing Forestry University, Nanjing, 210037, China.

Carbon nanomaterials show outstanding promise as electrocatalysts for hydrogen peroxide (HO) synthesis via the two-electron oxygen reduction reaction. However, carbon-based electrocatalysts that are capable of generating HO at industrial-level current densities (>300 mA cm) with high selectivity and long-term stability remain to be discovered. Herein, few-layer boron nanosheets are in-situ introduced into a porous carbon matrix, creating a metal-free electrocatalyst (B-C) with HO production rates of industrial relevance in neutral or alkaline media.

Zeolite coatings are studied as molecular sieves for membrane separation, membrane reactors, and chemical sensor applications. They are also studied as anticorrosive films for metals and alloys, antimicrobial and hydrophobic films for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, and dielectrics for semiconductor applications. Zeolite coatings are synthesized by hydrothermal, ionothermal, and dry-gel conversion approaches, which require high process temperatures and lengthy times (ranging from hours to days).

Amphiphilic copolymers of comb-like poly(poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate) (PPEGMA) with methyl methacrylate (MMA) synthesized by one-pot atom transfer radical polymerization were mixed with lithium bis (trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide salt to formulate dry solid polymer electrolytes (DSPE) for semisolid-state Li-ion battery applications. The PEO-type side chain length (EO monomer's number) in the PEGMA macromonomer units was varied, and its influence on the mechanical and electrochemical characteristics was investigated. It was found that the copolymers, due to the presence of PMMA segments, possess viscoelastic behavior and less change in mechanical properties than a PEO homopolymer with 100 kDa molecular weight in the investigated temperature range.

Development of efficient and stable bifunctional transition metal phosphide catalysts is critical for advancing hydrogen production technologies. Herein, RuCo co-doped NiP (RuCoNiP) was designed and synthesized by one-step electrodeposition for Ni electronic structure modulation, and evolved to RuCoNiP@α-Ni(OH) and RuCoNiP@Co/Ni(OH) heterointerfaces by self-assembled reconstruction during HER and OER processes, respectively. RuCoNiP@α-Ni(OH) enhances HER activity (305.

The development of efficient artificial photosynthesis systems is crucial for sustainable chemical production, as they mimic natural processes to convert solar energy into chemical products, thereby addressing both energy and environmental challenges. The main bottlenecks in current research include fabricating highly selective, stable, and scalable catalysts, as well as effectively harnessing the full spectrum of light, particularly the low-energy, long-wavelength portion. Herein, we report a novel composite photocatalyst system based on lead halide perovskites embedded in functionalized MOF glass.
