Some triazinone derivatives are designed and synthesized as potential antitumor agents. Triazinone derivatives 4c, 5e and 7c show potent anticancer activity over MCF-7 breast cancer cells higher than podophyllotoxin (podo) by approximate 6-fold. DNA flow cytometry analysis for the compounds 3c, 4c, 5e, 6c and 7c show a potent inhibitory activity of cell proliferation and cell cycle arrest at G/M phase. Compounds 4c, 5e and 7c exhibit low to moderate β-tubulin polymerization inhibition percentage. Meanwhile, compound 6c displayed excellent β-tubulin percentage of polymerization inhibition equivalent to that exhibited by podo. In addition, compounds 4c, 5e and 7c show strong topoisomerase (topo) II inhibitory activity in nano-molar concentration, compared to known topo inhibitor as etoposide. Finally, apoptotic inducing activity over MCF-7 of compounds 4c, 5e, 6c and 7c is due to up-regulation of p53, increased Bax/Bcl-2 ratio and caspase3/7 levels 2-fold higher than podo.

This study evaluated the antioxidant and antiproliferative effects of aqueous, ethanolic and methanolic extracts of Sedum nicaeense flowers and leaves. The MTT assay assessed cytotoxicity against colorectal cancer cells (Caco-2, HCT-116), breast cancer cells (T47D, MCF-7) and normal fibroblasts (MRC-5), while the ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay measured antioxidant capacity. Essential oils from flowers and leaves were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).

There is a need for advanced developments to battle aggressive breast cancer variations and to address treatment resistance. In cancer therapy, ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) possess the ability to selectively and effectively induce apoptosis in cancer cells. There is an urgent necessity to create novel anti-cancer therapies, and recent studies indicate that ZnO nanoparticles have significant promise.

Microwave-assisted extraction conditions were optimized using response surface methodology to evaluate the effects of extraction parameters on the yield and carbohydrate content of Luffa aegyptiaca mucilage. Extraction at 540 W for 2 min with a 1:20 (g/mL) was determined as the optimal parameter, resulting in a maximum yield of 5.90 % (w/w) with 63 % carbohydrate content consisting of glucose, galactose, maltose, mannose, and galacturonic acid, with structural linkages of β (1 → 4) and β (1 → 6) glycosidic bonds.

Eudesmane-type sesquiterpene lactone isoalantolactone 1 is of great interest due to its availability, biological activity and synthetic application. Respective series of original spirocyclic (11S,5') (1,2,3-triazoline-eudesma-4,15-enolides) and (11S)-aziridine-eudesma-4,15-enolides were efficiently synthesized via a chemoselective 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of organic azides to the exocyclic double bond of the lactone ring of isoalantolactone or 13E-(aryl)isoalantolactones by heating in DMF or toluene. The thermal reactions of isoalantolactone with benzyl azide, 2-azidoethanol, or n-butyl azide in 2-methoxyethanol afforded 13-(alkyamino)isoalantolactones formed as a mixture of (Z) and (E)-isomers.
