Article Abstract

A novel sandwich polyoxometalate (POM) Na[WCo(HO)(CoWO)] and poly(vinylimidazolium) cation [PVIM] in combination with nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes (NCNTs) was developed for a highly selective and ultrasensitive detection of dopamine. Conductively efficient heterogenization of CoPOM catalyst by PVIM over NCNTs provides the synergy between PVIM-POM catalyst and NCNTs as a conductive support which enhances the electron transport at the electrode/electrolyte interface and eliminates the interference of ascorbic acid (AA) at physiological pH (7.4). The novel PVIM-CoPOM/NCNT composite demonstrates a superior selectivity and sensitivity with a lowest detection limit of 500 pM (0.0005 μM) and a wide linear detection range of 0.0005-600 μM even in the presence of higher concentration of AA (500 μM).

Pulmonary inflammation is the main cause of lung injury. Phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) is a promising anti-inflammatory target for the treatment of respiratory diseases. Herein, we designed and synthesized 43 compounds in two novel series of benzimidazole derivatives as PDE4 inhibitors.

Background: In developing countries, rheumatic mitral valve stenosis (MS) is still a problem and its progression leads to left atrial (LA) damage. Due to the complexity of the LA geometry, currently used techniques like antero-posterior dimension (LAD) and 2D echo derived LA volume (LAV) have several limitations that are corrected by 3D derived LA volumes in addition to functional evaluation.

Purpose: To assess the LA functions using 2D speckle tracking echocardiography and 3D transthoracic echocardiography in patients with clinically significant MS in comparison to normal healthy subjects.

Bacterial spores are highly resilient and capable of surviving extreme conditions, making them a persistent threat in contexts such as disease transmission, food safety, and bioterrorism. Their ability to withstand conventional sterilization methods necessitates rapid and accurate detection techniques to effectively mitigate the risks they present. In this study, we introduce a surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) approach for detecting spores by targeting calcium dipicolinate acid (CaDPA), a biomarker uniquely associated with bacterial spores.

Butyl Imidates: Highly Stable and Isolable Synthetic Intermediates.

J Org Chem

January 2025

U.S. Process Chemistry, CMC Synthetics Platform, Sanofi, 350 Water Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts 02141, United States.

Imidates are versatile synthetic intermediates that contain ambiphilic reactivity, making them valuable pharmaceutically relevant synthons. Despite their extensive utility, imidates are typically generated in situ rather than isolated due to their inherent instability. This report details a systematic study that led to the discovery of an isolable imidate hydrogen chloride (HCl) salt that exhibits high tolerance to hydrolysis, thereby improving process control and facilitating downstream transformations.

The dynamics of neuronal systems are characterized by hallmark features such as oscillations and synchrony. However, it has remained unclear whether these characteristics are epiphenomena or are exploited for computation. Due to the challenge of selectively interfering with oscillatory network dynamics in neuronal systems, we simulated recurrent networks of damped harmonic oscillators in which oscillatory activity is enforced in each node, a choice well supported by experimental findings.
