This article reports a novel fabrication of branched cum cross-linked poly(lactic acid) (PLA) with nanosilk fibroin with graft chain topology by reactive extrusion process. It could be possible by the addition of a small amount of radical initiator (dicumyl peroxide (DCP)). Grafting of silk nanocrystals (SNCs) on PLA macromolecules that provides remarkable improvement in the rheological and thermal properties of the latter are confirmed by H NMR and Fourier transform infrared investigation. Significant improvement is observed in zero shear viscosities, and the crossover point shifts to lower frequencies as compared to the branched and cross-linked PLA system. Along with SNC grafting, the crystallization process is also enhanced and stable crystals appeared during cooling, which results in a single melting peak. The rate of crystallization of PLA has been improved although the percentage crystallinity reduces with DCP content, as higher grafting and cross-linking restricts the chain segmental motion, which is critical for crystallization process. Furthermore, SNC grafting increases the reprocessability performance of PLA and provides higher rheological properties as compared to the branched and cross-linked PLA at all reprocessing cycles.

This paper presents the results of a study on the effect of moisture content in polylactic acid (PLA) filaments on dust emissions during incremental manufacturing. The tests were conducted in a customised chamber using a standard 3D printer, and Plantower PMS3003 sensors were used to monitor air quality by measuring PM1, PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations.

: Postoperative abdominal adhesion is a prevalent complication following abdominal surgery, with the incidence of adhesion reaching up to 90%, which may precipitate a range of adverse outcomes. Although fibrous membranes loaded with various anti-inflammatory or other drugs have been proposed for anti-adhesion, most of them suffer from drug-induced adverse effects. : In this study, a lecithin-based electrospun polylactic acid (PLA) nanofibrous membrane (L/P-NM) was developed for the prevention of postoperative abdominal adhesion, utilizing the hydration lubrication theory.

Lactic acid (LA) is a versatile, optically active compound with applications across the food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries, largely driven by its role in producing biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA). Due to its abundance, lignocellulosic biomass is a promising and sustainable resource for LA production, although media derived from these matrices are often rich in xylose and contain growth inhibitors. This study investigates LA production using a xylose-rich medium derived from DC stalks treated through steam explosion and enzymatic hydrolysis.

Additive manufacturing is an attractive technology due to its versatility in producing parts with diverse properties from a single material. However, the process often generates plastic waste, particularly from failed prints, making sustainability a growing concern. Recycling this waste material presents a potential solution for reducing environmental impact while creating new, functional parts.

Glycerol-(9,10-trioxolane) trioleate (OTOA) is a promising material that combines good plasticizing properties for PLA with profound antimicrobial activity, which makes it suitable for application in state-of-the-art biomedical and packaging materials with added functionality. On the other hand, application of OTOA in PLA-based antibacterial materials is hindered by a lack of knowledge on kinetics of the OTOA release. In this work, the release of glycero-(9,10-trioxolane) trioleate (OTOA) from PLA films with 50% OTOA content was studied during incubation in normal saline solution, and for the first time, the kinetics of OTOA release from PLA film was evaluated.
