Diet and nutrition are increasingly recognized as likely to be major determinants of cancer, notably cancers of the gastrointestinal tract, breast, endometrium, ovary, and prostate. Dietary factors may collectively account for a greater proportion of all cancers that occur in contemporary Western society than does any other category of environmental exposure (1). With the development of knowledge of the protective properties of certain components of food, links with diet have been suggested for other cancer sites (2). The epidemiological evidence for the association of diet and cancer is, however, not uniformly convincing; also, the likely biological pathways are not always clear. In this paper, we comment on some current hypotheses in this area and examine the best epidemiological methods to test them.

Background: Whether the intake of whole grain foods can protect against lung cancer is a long-standing question of considerable public health import, but the epidemiologic evidence has been limited. Therefore we aim to investigate the relationship between whole grain food consumption and lung cancer in the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial (PLCO) cohort.
Methods: Diet was assessed with a self-administered Diet History Questionnaire (DHQ) at baseline.

Building on previous research that identified metastatic-niche-specific metabolic vulnerabilities, we investigated how a ketogenic diet enhances estrogen receptor (ER)-positive liver metastatic breast cancer's response to Fulvestrant (Fulv) treatment. Using in vitro cell lines and in vivo xenograft metastasis mouse models, we examined the molecular mechanisms of combining ER targeting with a ketogenic diet.

Mycotoxin exposure from contaminated food is a significant global health issue, particularly among vulnerable children. Given limited data on mycotoxin exposure among Namibian children, this study investigated mycotoxin types and levels in foods, evaluated dietary mycotoxin exposure from processed cereal foods in children under age five from rural households in Oshana region, Namibia. Mycotoxins in cereal-based food samples (n = 162) (mahangu flour (n = 35), sorghum flour (n = 13), mahangu thin/thick porridge (n = 54), oshikundu (n = 56), and omungome (n = 4)) were determined by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.
