Cancer remains one of the most formidable challenges in the medical field in this century, largely due to its poorly understood pathogenesis. Fortunately, recent advancements in the understanding of cancer pathogenesis have helped identify more therapeutic targets for improved treatment outcomes. The WNT signaling pathways are highly conserved cascades that participate in diverse physiological processes, such as embryonic development, tissue homeostasis, and tissue regeneration.

The preparation of organochalcogens has increased in recent times due to their promising biological activity properties. This work studies the reaction mechanism of a nickel(0)-catalyzed cross-coupling between benzonitrile and propanethiol to produce new C-S bonds by computational means. The proposed mechanism follows the classical oxidative addition/transmetalation/reductive elimination cross-coupling sequence, involving an unusual oxidative addition of a Ph-CN bond onto the active species.

Amyloid fibrils are protein polymers noncovalently assembled through β-strands arranged in a cross-β structure. Biological amyloids were considered chemically inert until we and others recently demonstrated their ability to catalyze chemical reactions in vitro. To further explore the functional repertoire of amyloids, we here probe if fibrils of α-synuclein (αS) display chemical reactivity toward DNA.

Most chronic respiratory diseases often lead to the clinical manifestation of pulmonary fibrosis. Inflammation and immune disorders are widely recognized as primary contributors to the onset of pulmonary fibrosis. Given that macrophages are predominantly responsible for inflammation and immune disorders, in this review, we first focused on the role of different subpopulations of macrophages in the lung and discussed the crosstalk between macrophages and other immune cells, such as neutrophils, regulatory T cells, NKT cells, and B lymphocytes during pulmonary fibrogenesis.

Memristors enable non-volatile memory and neuromorphic computing. Optical memristors are the fundamental element for programmable photonic integrated circuits due to their high-bandwidth computing, low crosstalk, and minimal power consumption. Here, an optical memristor enabled by a non-volatile electro-optic (EO) effect, where refractive index modulation under zero field is realized by deliberate control of domain alignment in the ferroelectric material Pb(MgNb)O-PbTiO(PMN-PT) is proposed.
