In the title compound, CHINO·CHOH, two aromatic rings are linked by an -substituted hydrazide function. The dihedral angle between the aromatic rings is 10.53 (8)°. The stereochemistry about the imine function is . The methanol mol-ecule forms an O-H⋯O hydrogen bond to the hydrazide O atom. In the crystal, chains of mol-ecules running along the -axis direction are formed by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. Adjacent chains are linked through N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and π-π stacking inter-actions. The inter-molecular inter-actions in the crystal packing were investigated using Hirshfeld surface analysis, which indicated that the most significant contacts are H⋯H (38.2%), followed by C⋯H/H⋯C (20.6%), O⋯H/H⋯O (11.1%) and I⋯H/H⋯I (9.7%).

The characterization of tunnel wash water (TWW) from 12 Norwegian tunnels showed very high concentrations of total suspended solids (TSS), metals, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Iron (Fe), aluminum (Al), and manganese (Mn) were mainly particle-associated. They are efficiently removed by sedimentation, while the dissolved concentrations of toxic metals like Cu, Zn, and As did not change.

The world's largest green tide, caused by Ulva prolifera, in the Yellow Sea negatively affects the social and economic development of China's coastal region. The dissolved organic matter (DOM) released from U. prolifera is a potential threat to the offshore ecological health.

Chemically engineered extracts represent a promising source of new bioactive semi-synthetic molecules. Prepared through direct derivatization of natural extracts, they can include constituents enriched with elements and sub-structures that are less common in natural products compared to drugs. Fourteen such extracts were prepared through sequential reactions with hydrazine and a fluorinating reagent, and their α-glucosidase inhibition properties were compared.

We have calculated the magnetically induced current density (MICD) susceptibility at the all-electron density functional theory level for a series of coronoid molecules of increasing size and compared the MICD susceptibilities with those calculated using the pseudo-π (PP) model. The molecules sustain global diatropic magnetically induced ring currents (MIRCs), whereas paratropic MICD vortices mainly appear inside the benzene rings. The computationally cheaper PP calculations were also employed on circum[]coronene molecules showing that the MICD pattern continues to alternate for odd and even when increasing the size of the molecule.

Minimizing the oxidation of lipids remains one of the most important challenges to extend the shelf-life of food products and reduce food waste. While most consumer products contain antioxidants, the most efficient strategy is to incorporate combinations of two or more compounds, boosting the total antioxidant capacity. Unfortunately, the reasons for observing synergistic / antagonistic / additive effects in food samples are still unclear, and it is common to observe very different responses even for similar mixtures.
