Introduction: The most important risk factors for colorectal cancer are age, high ASA score, anemia, low albumin, tumor stage, histopathological properties, tumor's relationship with adjacent tissues, positivity of surgical borders and timing of the surgical procedure.
Aim: To determine possible risk factors for mortality in patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery.
Material And Methods: The medical records of 101 consecutive patients who underwent colorectal cancer surgery at the Department of Surgery, Sutcu Imam University Faculty of Medicine, Kahramanmaras, Turkey between January 2008 and November 2015 were retrospectively reviewed. The patients were divided into two groups: surviving ( = 76) and deceased ( = 25) groups. The groups were compared in terms of several demographic, clinical, biochemical, and histopathological parameters. In addition, risk factors for mortality were analyzed with multivariate analysis. SPSS 22.2, PAST 3, and MedCalc 14 software packages were used for statistical analyses.
Results: The surviving and deceased groups significantly differed with respect to age ( = 0.001), hemoglobin ( = 0.001), lymph node positivity ( = 0.009), positive lymph node/total lymph node ratio ( = 0.012), thrombocyte count ( = 0.047), lymphovascular invasion ( = 0.028), urgency of admission (emergency/elective) ( = 0.036), and postoperative carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level ( = 0.002). A receiver operating characteristics curve was drawn to determine the cut-off values of various parameters including age (63), hemoglobin (12.8), node positivity (3), positive/total lymph node ratio (0.435) and thrombocyte count (308), with age ( < 0.001), hemoglobin ( < 0.001), node positivity ( = 0.025) and positive/total lymph node ratio ( = 0.024) being significantly different. A multivariate analysis revealed that age ( = 0.049), hemoglobin ( = 0.045), and positive/total lymph node ratio ( = 0.025) were independent risk factors for mortality.
Conclusions: This study shows that older age, lower hemoglobin level, and high positive/total lymph node ratio were independent risk factors for mortality among colorectal cancer patients.

Background: Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) enables a non-invasive measurement of tissue oxygen saturation (StO) in regions illuminated by near-infrared lights. Vascular occlusion test (VOT) serves as a model to artificially induce forearm ischemia-reperfusion. The combination of StO monitoring and VOT allows for dynamic evaluation of the balance between oxygen delivery and consumption in tissue, as well as the functional reserve of microcirculation.

Background: The Compress is designed to achieve bone formation and stability by applying pressure at the bone-implant interface, minimizing the likelihood of aseptic loosening, which is a complication of stem implants. Herein, we report two cases of implant failure using the Compress.
Case Presentation: Case 1 describes a 36 year-old Japanese man who underwent extraarticular tumor resection, Compress arthroplasty, and reconstruction with a gastrocnemius flap after preoperative chemotherapy for a secondary malignant giant cell tumor in the right distal femur.

Background: Adequate knowledge and awareness regarding diseases are essential for appropriate, high-quality healthcare. Female Genital Schistosomiasis (FGS) is a non-sexually transmitted gynaecological disease that is caused by the presence of Schistosoma haematobium eggs in the female genital tract and the resulting immune response that causes tissue damage. It is estimated to affect 56 million women, mostly in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), where healthcare workers (HCWs) have limited awareness and knowledge of FGS.

Background: Despite advancements in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) treatment and care, undernutrition remains a significant concern, accelerating disease progression and risk of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)-related deaths. The nutritional status of second-line antiretroviral treatment (SLART) users in Ethiopia has not been thoroughly investigated. So, this study aimed to assess the nutritional status of HIV/AIDS patients who were on SLART and its associated factors in Northern Ethiopia.
