Unlabelled: Gram-negative bacterial quorum sensing is mainly regulated by an extracellularly produced N-acylhomoserine lactone (AHL). AHL consists of a lactone ring and an acyl chain, which generally varies from C to C in length and affords species-specific variety. In this study, we developed an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry system and detected two kinds of long chain AHLs with chain length C from the reverse-phase thin layer chromatography-fractionated cultured supernatant of the marine photosynthetic bacterium Rhodovulum sulfidophilum. By fragmentation search analysis to detect compounds with a homoserine lactone ring moiety for data dependent acquisition, a minor AHL, presumed to be 3-OH-C-homoserine lactone (HSL), was also found. Among the detected C-HSLs, 3-OH-C-HSL was structurally identified and 3-OH-C-HSL was strongly suggested. To our knowledge, this is the first report to show a novel AHL with the longest C acyl side chain found to date.

Salivary steroids in acute central serous chorioretinopathy.

Int Ophthalmol

January 2025

University of Pittsburgh, UPMC Eye Center, 203 Lothrop Street, Pittsburgh, PA, 15213, USA.

Purpose: To analyze levels of salivary steroids, including 17-OH-progesterone (17-OHP), androstenedione, dehydroepiandrosterone, cortisol, cortisone, progesterone, testosterone, and estradiol, in patients with acute central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) patients.

Methods: Acute CSCR patients and healthy individuals were included in this observational case-control study. Levels of salivary steroids were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry detection.

In most cases, the diagnosis of diabetes in animal models is based solely on blood glucose levels. While hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) is widely used in the diagnosis of diabetes in humans, it is rarely measured in mice in diabetes research. This is thought to be because there are no established reference values for mouse HbA1c, as well as the fact that there are very few reports on the variability and reproducibility of measurements taken using different devices.

Plasma Alkylresorcinols is an objective biomarker for gluten intake in young children.

J Nutr

January 2025

Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund university, Malmö, Sweden; Department of Pediatrics, Skåne University Hospital, Malmö. Sweden. Electronic address:

Background: Alkylresorcinols are a well-established biomarker for whole grain intake. There is evidence suggesting that total plasma alkylresorcinol concentration may also be used as a biomarker for gluten intake in adults.

Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate if total alkylresorcinol concentration is a valid biomarker for gluten intake in young children.

The effect of Constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT) or Intermittent theta-burst stimulation (iTBS) alone is limited in improving motor function after a stroke. In this study, we explored the efficacy and possible mechanisms in combination of CIMT and iTBS through behavioral evaluation, RNA sequencing, Golgi staining, transmission electronic microscope (TEM), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), western blotting (WB) and immunofluorescence. Firstly, we observed that combination therapy is safe and effective, and it can significantly reduce the number of immature dendritic spines and increase the number of functional dendritic spines, the amount of glutamate (Glu) and the expression of Glu1 receptor (Glu1R).
