Modeling the response to interleukin-21 to inform natural killer cell immunotherapy.

Immunol Cell Biol

January 2025

Steve and Cindy Rasmussen Institute for Genomic Medicine, Abigail Wexner Research Institute, Nationwide Children's Hospital, Columbus, OH, USA.

Natural killer (NK) cells are emerging agents for cancer therapy. Several different cytokines are used to generate NK cells for adoptive immunotherapy including interleukin (IL)-2, IL-12, IL-15 and IL-18 in solution, and membrane-bound IL-21. These cytokines drive NK cell activation through the integration of signal transducers and activators of transcription (STAT) and nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) pathways, which overlap and synergize, making it challenging to predict optimal cytokine combinations for both proliferation and cytotoxicity.

Pain in adults with cystic fibrosis - Are we painfully unaware?

J Cyst Fibros

January 2025

Southern Cross University, Faculty of Health, Coolangatta, Queensland, Australia. Electronic address:

Background: A previous Australia-wide pilot study identified pain as a significant burden in people with CF (pwCF). However, the prevalence, frequency and severity have not been evaluated using validated tools.

Methods: Australian adults, pwCF and healthy controls (HC) were invited to complete an online questionnaire from July 2023 - February 2024, consisting of four validated tools: Brief Pain Inventory, Pain Catastrophising Scale, PAGI-SYM and PAC-SYM.

Objective: This study evaluates the extent of perfusion abnormalities in pediatric traumatic head injury patients by using computed tomography perfusion (CTP) and compares the efficacy of voxel based and whole brain perfusion data clinically with functional outcome scales GOSE-P and MRS.

Methodology: In this Prospective study 100 eligible patients of age group 0-15 years were enrolled. Subjects were categorized into mild, moderate and severe traumatic brain injury using GCS.

Fasting enhances the efficacy of Sorafenib in breast cancer via mitophagy mediated ROS-driven p53 pathway.

Innovation Center of Nursing Research, Nursing Key Laboratory of Sichuan Province, Rehabilitation Medicine Center, West China Hospital, Sichuan University /West China School of Nursing, Sichuan University, Chengdu, 610041, China; Key Laboratory of Rehabilitation Medicine in Sichuan Province, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610041, China. Electronic address:

The multi-kinase inhibitor sorafenib has shown potential to inhibit tumor cell growth and intra-tumoral angiogenesis by targeting several kinases, including VEGFR2 and RAF. Abnormal activation of the Ras/Raf/MAPK/ERK kinase cascade and the VEGF pathway is a common feature in breast cancer. However, the efficacy of sorafenib in breast cancer treatment remains limited.

Background: The use of automated insulin delivery (AID) devices is now widespread in the management of type 1 diabetes (T1D), being used for younger and older children, adolescents and adults. The integration of insulin pumps with continuous glucose monitors (CGM) and smart management software in AID systems has significantly improved glycemic management compared to the separate application of each diabetes technology. The efficacy of AID systems has been demonstrated in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) but it is their application in real-world studies that fully demonstrates their impact for people with T1D.
